    Hi
the dvd seems to have given up. it won't play or recognise a blank dvd. does anyone know of a repair or is it not worth it?

Does the machine give several clunks when you insert a disc?
If so, the laser has failed.

And if so, the only economically realistic option is to replace the laser module. (...not the drive)

The 'How to' thread is here.

    thanks for ther reply Gavtech

it does this routine where i suppose you could construe as clunks, usually about 3-4 times and takes about 60-90 secs before it decides the (blank) disk is unrecordable
