If I bought this DVD player and connected it to an external freeview box then would I be able to record from freeview ok?

Yes - although you'll get better performance and features by purchasing the DMR-ES20D version which has in integrated Freeview tuner.

i had a es10 for a few days and used a fvrt200 freeview to connect to it and record but, I replaced it with the ES20 more flexibity and it uses video+ for freeview - just does not enter the channel - so you put the video plus code in and then change channels. But with the guide the big advantage is I can just schedule a few programs on it. Not possible with a freeviewbox connected as I would eed to be around to change channels
