Just been reading the review of the Panasonic DMR-E100 in What HiFi December 2003. They do not rate it very highly !!!!

I have attached a copy of the article, but in summary they say the Panasonic is unspectacular as a DVD player. When recording video has a strangely distant quality even in XP mode.

Has anybody any experience of using one of these?

Remembering of course it was this publication that went on TV telling people not to buy a DVD recorder because of the format war just to get some publicity for their ailing magazine. Not to mention the same magazine that suggests in their buyers guide you spend £800+ on a CD player and around £300 on a DVD player!?!

Read the What Video & Widescreen Entertainment and Home Cinema Choice Reviews (both 5/5 - "best DVD recorder ever"). Even better go down to a Panasonic shop and use it yourself.

So for the last two months they sing the praises of the Toshiba (whilst only slightly acknowledging its lack of RGB input) an no slate the Panny?

Oddness all around. For me the HS2 WASN'T as good a DVD player as my Sony GXR7 BUT as a DVD recorder with a DVD player I can't see how the E100 can be bettered

Best mass recorder I have seen to date though I did quite like the top Philips but thats not for everyone. If What Hifi didn't like it you can rest assured it is a good player, a very good one. They are a bunch of amateurs who wouldn't know a good DVD picture from a bad one. Buy with confidence.

I too can't see why they have been "creaming up" over the Toshiba when it doesn't have RGB input. They don't really mention that do they ?

P.S> I can't get the attachment to open

Remarkably vague in the review and shows a clear lack of understanding.
