Is it possible to copy your own DVD's to the H/D, and then back to DVD-R discs with the DMR 85?

Only if not copy protected: so if your talking about commercial discs then the answer is no. No DVD recorder will allow this!

Yes - this should work. It should even work if you use VR mode (assuming you camcorder allows that mode of recording).

Yeah VR and video mode. I normally record in video mode with it. The Tosh xs32 stuttered its way through all of these discs - one of the reasons I took it back - but now that Richer have reduced it (panny DMR 85) to £329 I feel tempted.

If you use VR mode on your camcorder in future you'll be able to high speed dub from the DVD-RW to the HDD preserving the quality.
