I am new to Plasma but after doing some research have decided on a 37" (42" too big for my room). I have narrowed down the choice to the Panasonic TH37PW7 or TH37PE30 (altough the newer 32" Hitachi inc media box also looks good).

I will be connecting a Freeview box, DVD player (Toshiba 340E) and VCR.

I am leaning towards the TH37PE30 because all the connectivity seems built in, and it comes with a decent looking stand (I probably won't wall mount).

If I go for the PW7 I am not sue what else I will need. Do I go for a dedicted tuner box (Panasonic do one) or just get the terminal board(s) ? Given what I want to connect can anyone steer me in the right direction?

Picture quality is important but I dont want to spend more that say £1750-1900 in total.

    Any advice much appreciated. :lease:

Look at the unit dimensions of the 37" Viera compared to the 42" PW7,
I wandered into the 42" to big thing and bought a 37" Viera, although very pleased with PQ and TV in general, I looked at the dimensions of the 42" PW7 and found its actually smaller in width and would have fit very nicely

Never mind I will know when I come to upgrade

Both are very good, you wont be disapointed with either.

If you have or want surround sound, go for the PW, if you have no need or wish for this, then get the viera. You could have the PW7, 5.1 speaker set, and a scart switching amp in your budget, but you will then have the speakers scattered around your small room like grass seed, maybe depends how small the room is. I've put some huge screens into small rooms, famously a 50" into a geezer's 9ft sq bedroom. Never again on that one, I hope.

That's what all the nice boys say! As I said, never again.

Surround sound from anything is what I mean, the viera has 2 convenient speakers that will give you stereo from any source you connect, with the panel the speakers are expensive extras, so it's worthwhile getting an AV amp, using it as a video hub as well as giving you surround in the form of dolby 5.1 from DVD and PL2 from TV.
