    HI

Does anyone know where I can get good independent advice on the Panasonic NV DS30 DV Camcorder and the Panasonic NV DS38B DV Camcorder?

I want to buy one of the two but I want to know which is better for Performance and features.

Anyone got one? How is it?

    Also anything about Panasonic GS4.

    Thanks in Advance.
    Matt.

No difference in spec. or performance Matt, - bar an improved battery. The changes have mostly been external, - added a video light, - they have moved the tape loading door, and the menu control. Unless you can buy the old NV-DS38B for £100-00 cheaper than the NV-DS30, then buy the new model.

The DS30 is very nice, I bought one last week. Got Jessops to price match for £476 (rather than £600)!

    u768211,

I'd be interested to know where you got the price of £476 in the first place in order to get a price match from Jessops. I'm in the same boat as southpaw, I have a budget of £500 for a digital cam. I'd be happy to use the same tactics, rather than hunt around for a low priced 2001 model.
    Any advice appreciated.

    Thanks for the above.

Sean B go to PRCDirect.co.uk they have it for £474.94!!!!

FLOANDAL is the NVDS30B a newer model than the NVDS38???

I thought it was the other way around.

Also I 've started looking at the GS5 DV. I love the size but its the features that I need! Is it equal to the above two?

    Thanks
    Matt.

the cheapest sites I found were prcdirect and ediscount.

At the time ediscount were cheapest. They also have an indicator as to whether it is in stock or not (a print out of this screen was sufficient for Jessops (and a call to area manager)) as the camera has to be in stock for Jessops to price match. Might be worth taking down the phone no too, just so they can phone.

Oh, and I believe that the 30 is the newest model, it only came out about 2 weeks ago. For ref I found the 29 for under £400 (£393?) which is quite a good deal!

    Good luck.

    James.

Can you tell me more about the nvds30.

    How are you finding it?

Is the 0 Lux any good?

    Is the light any good?

Does it have a Remote control?

Is it true the viewfinder is black and white?

I'm very close to buying one but I'm still trying to compare it to the GS5B but this is more expensive.

Sorry about all the questions but I want the best of the two.

    Thanks
    Matt.

    Matt,

The night vision is cool, but only works to about 5 metres.

Very easy to use, haven't used the light yet, but apparently good, but uses lots of battery. Does have a neat little remote. Yes View finder is black and white.

The GS5 looks like a nice bit of kit, how about the GS3 aswell? I went for the Ds30 in the end as I knew that the 27 and 28 had rave reviews before, and this is basically those in nicer packaging. The GS are probably good, but I thought maybe a bit too small for my big hands, and I couldn't find reviews. But the GS3 can be picked up for about £100 extra.
