Looking to buy a GS150 or GS180 3CCD Camcorder from Panasonic. However it looks like they are much cheaper in the US. Is the US model 100% compatible or am I likely hit NTSC / PAL issues etc?

Are I correct in thinking these are the best Camcorders available sub £300 at the moment ?

    TIA,
    Mike

If you buy a camcorder from the US most likely it will be NTSC. You can get some PAL models in the US but they are fairly rare and often not cheaper (as they aren't the native model they will be imports).

Also, while they are generally a bit cheaper in the US, if you are looking at web prices be aware in the US "rogue" dealers offering cheap prices which are actually scams are common... so when comparing make sure you are comparing with a reputible dealer.

Also by law you are required to pay VAT to bring it into the UK.. If you order by post customs impose the charge and you will have to pay to receive it. If you carry it in it depends if you are lucky and tell the truth if questioned...

GS180 (NTSC) from reputible dealer B&H is $380, about £197 at today's rate. So even if you add VAT that comes to £231, which is cheaper (Purely Gadgets has it at £282). They also have a PAL GS180, that is $470 (£244, or £286 if you add the VAT - similar price to here).

As for your other question (best under £300)... also consider the Canon MVX450/460. Is true widescreen (GS180 isn't), won camcorder of the year from US camcorderinfo.com.
