Panasonic BD30; why all the limitations?

I'm quite disappointed with some "features" of the BD30.
Why is the SD card slot limited to watching pictures and camcorder movies?
It's really silly that I can't use my MP3 player's SD card and put it in to listen to music. Nor can I play an AVCHD movie from SD card. And why doesn't the player accept DVDs with MP3 files? The only way to use MP3 with the machine is burn them on CD (I never use those anymore). The machine's got all the right codecs, can read most disc formats, yet it's restricted in this silly way. Why?

I agree, it's pants...however it's possible to run AVCHD files from the SD card, you simply need the right folder structure.
Did you actually get this working? I've tried everything (including changing the file extensions to 3 characters) but can't get it to work.
The structure which I believe is the correct one looks like this:
