I have recently seen the 4805 and it looks great to me. However, can't find local place to view the ae700 which seem to be available at good prices now. I keep reading stuff that suggests DLP is emerging as the best for home cinema? anybody seen both (or themescene h30a and ae700)

    thanks

    Hi.

Actually DLP is the "establishment" and LCD are the "emerging stars".

If you like the 4805 then you won't go far wrong, though I think the H30a is a bit newer may be slightly better.

If you want LCD then the AE700 is popular, but also check out the Sanyo Z3 and the Hitachi TX100.

And they are but a few of the fine PJ's vying for your wonga.

DLP has better contrast apparently, LCD you get more resolution for your money (fairly academic if you are watching SD DVD).

If you dig a little deeper into this forum with judicious use of the search facility, more will be revealed!

    ...PJ :)

Or get the New BenQ PE7700 High Def DLP projector. You can pick them up for just a little more then the AE700, it's got the same resolution as AE700 but the colour and contrast of a DLP.

    The best of both worlds.

The PE7700 is just about the best PJ in it's price bracket at the mo. It's gonna be hard to beat.

Having said all that your really starting to get into the laws of diminishing returns. Both the AE700 and 4805 are cracking machines.

What are you going to drive them with.

The ae700 has 2x zoom so can be very flexible when it comes to mounting.

Do I recall Stuart Wright saying be careful of opinion when people haven't actually seen the device? I think it probably doubly applies when the thing hasn't been released yet!

I think that it is the other way around tbh. LCD machines have been around for a long time (Panny 100 et al) and were being surpassed by DLP. However, of late LCD has made a great come back with machines such as the Z3, 700 and the HS50.

OK. I just remember your reply to your recommendation of the 4:3 6100 saying something like "I haven't seen the 5120 yet and I don't recommend things I haven't seen". ;)

Either way, I'm as eagre to hear about this new Benq as anyone. But it's a bit early for sweeping statements...PJ :)
