Panasonic AE500 and Samsung HD935

Im a newbie on the Projector scence :)

I have just ordered the AE500 from komplett online (for a new extended room)

Just a few questions for the experts -

1. I am considering purchasing the samsung hd935, which has DVI output - will the quality from DVI be visually a lot better or is DVI for techo freaks? Has anybody tried connecting a ae500 with a samsung 935 - does anybody have any positive results?

2. Considering purchasing an electric screen, my room will be 14ft wide by 19ft long - can anybody recommend a budget electric screen (7ft? 16:9)

3. Can anyone recommend a budget mount for the ae500 - I would like to mount the projector in the middle of the room? is this ok?

4. Decided to purchase the AE500 instead of the Hitach TX10, I hope this was a wise investment. Everybody seems to suggest the AE500 is excellent value for money

5. Can I connect SKy+ to the projector? Digital Video Senders?

6. And finally, any tips for cabling and laying speaker/dvi wire for my new room?

Sorry for all the questions guys

I have also seen the Samsung HD935 in several magazines and it appears to be a DVI bargain but does anyone know where it can be purchased for not much more than the normal price with multiregion capability. As it comes from Samsung it is region 2 only.:(

According to HCC there is a handset hack which enables playback of all discs (inc. RCE). Hopefully that'll be why you can't find someone selling multiregion versions for £100 more hehe.

Hi Armxz

I'll try to answer a few

1, From what I've read the 935 has some problems when upconverting R2 disks to 720p or 1080i, but it is fine with R1
and the dvi output gives a much better pq when compaired to the component output.

2, Grandview screen www.intoav.com the AE500 will need to be 13.5 ft from the screen to produce a 92" wide picture

3, not sure

4, yes

5, You could connect Sky via the RGB scart (1st choice) or use a scart to component converter and use the component inputs (2ndchoice)

5, regarding cabling keep the dvi as short as possible I have read of people having problem when using dvi over 7.5m,

hope this helps :)

It is my understanding that there is a handset hack for this unit. Dvi seems to produce the best results as no signal conversion.

From the DVD Player Forum here.....

1. Turn on the player.
2. Press PLAY and STOP on the player. Keep the two buttons pressed until the language selection is displayed, then release them.
3. Select language.
4. Press REPEAT.
5. Enter 57538. The region code will be displayed.
6. Press 9.
7. Press OPEN.
8. Press STANDBY.

If that doesn't work, repeat the process but in step 5 press 38767

I have just bought this combo as well (dvd player arrived yesterday and the region hack works fine) no PJ yet so will have to wait to see what it looks like big screen, I tried DVI on my LG TFT but it looked messy.

I went for a screen from http://www.drhscreens.co.uk/ as it was only £105 for 60 inch.

Thanks Andy, I already had a copy of HCC but missed that HCC practical tip nestled in the corner of the review. Incedently they give a price of £180 but in What Hi-FI (browsing only!) they list it at £150. Anyone seen it cheaper on the web?
