My Panasonic AE300 is on its way back to me at last. Took a call from Panasonic this morning and they have advised me that the blown power supply unit has been replaced and that the PJ has been given a service by Mohammed the engineer, which included dust blob removal.

Glad to be getting it back, but its a shame that I had to get a little uptight with Panasonic, but fair play to the guy who I spoke to on Friday as he has finally got the ball rolling.

Finally, after watching a few films on the lovely Sharp Z91E DLP projector, it will be interesting to see how the LCD picture now compares, as despite the sharp being a 4:3 - 800 x 600 machine, I have to say that the PQ is great and has definately steered us towards a future DLP purchase and it could make the Panny look poor :(

I will do my best to write a summary of the differences between the two units. From what I can see already both have the pluses and the minuses.

The biggest trade off has to be the rainbow effect vs. vertical banding.

I would much rather see the odd quick rainbow than have to tolerate VB. Once you spot it its hard to ignore. My panny doesnt really suffer from it but it can even be down to the source i.e the DVD you are watching.

I will report back as and when.

Methinks he'll be moving offices. :D

Glad to hear you finally battered Panny into action Captain .. hope the wait was worth it, though by the sound of it your using a loan machine could have caused you more indecision. ;)

Panasonic employee's details removed - don't think it's appropriate posting such details on a public forum without his express consent.

Did not want to open a can of worms and I can understand why it needed to be removed.

I simply thought it may fast track other problems people may have with Panny units.
