I have just erased a title from the hard drive. Before confirming that it is OK to erase the programme, it states on the screen that after erasing, there will be 24 hours 34 minutes remaining on the hard drive in SP mode. I select Yes to erase. When I then select PROG/CHECK to set up another timed recording, the timer recording screen states there are only 19 hours 12 minutes remaining on the hard drive. The same figure is also shown on the recorders LCD. Thats a difference of about 5 hours. Ive totalled up the time recorded on the hard drive which is about 9 hours 20 minutes. When this is added to 24 hours 34 minutes it equals the total capacity of the hard drive as specified in the instruction manual. Since I started writing this I have just switched on the Panasonic 85 and have the following message Cannot finish recording completely. It has only recorded 23 minutes of a 30 minute programme in EP mode. The LCD says there are 82 hours 3 minutes remaining in EP mode. If I press erase to delete the 23 minute recording there would be 98 hours 53 minutes left! Either way there should be loads of space on the hard drive. As editing programmes on the hard drive can cause problems in the long term, I always create play lists to edit out commercials etc before dubbing to DVD-R or DVD-RAM. I think this variation in time remaining has only started since I tried high speed dubbing with Verbatim 8x DVD-R discs which have caused the machine to crash. Has anyone got any suggestions as to which figure to believe, or have I lost a chunk of hard drive space?
