hi guys.. i am from india and looking tto buy a plasma...
i am undecided between panasonic 50pv500 and hitachi 55pma550a:
    * hdtv is at least 3 yrs away so it is not very imp
    * watching normal tv is most imp esp. sports.. there still no digital tv either but it is just around the corner so that is a consideration...
    * though i watch around 8-10 movies a months on my tv...

so which one should i get..??

    p.s. and what are scalers...??

Personally I would go for the Panasonic every time, the fact you like sport makes it the favourite, it will show 50Hz at 50Hz so no judder.
Is the 55" an ALiS panel?

Your dealer is a liar who can get the last of the PE30 screens at a very reduced price and make some serious money on them!

Search camorra's posts on here, I think maybe he is Mr.Hitachi and is going to fight till the death to try and tell everyone they are the best things since sliced bread! ;)

If you asked everyone on here whch screen they could have for free, I bet 90% would choose the PV500.

The contrast ratio on the Hitachi is one of the worst I have seen, not only is there no blacks at all but there is no shadow detail either.

If HD isn't so important to you, what's wrong with the Panasonic PE50? Or maybe this is what your dealer was talking about. This is an SD panel, but uses the latest panasonic screen, and is very impressive - and a lot cheaper than the PV500!

Whoops - missed that. Sorry. In which case he should definitely check out the new Fujitsu 50", which (if you can afford it) is probably the best plasma you can buy.

ok.. so i went to the showroom again.. with my new found knowledge thanks to u guys.. and also checked out fujitsu 50".... sure it is a better than panasonic... but is too expensive for me...
and also hitachi is out of contention....
so one last question should i go with panasonic 50" (pv500) or go for fujitsu 42" because for me picture quality is more imp than size...

thanks a lot guys u have been a great help...

The Fuji 42" uses hitachi glass!

So it is either 50" or nothing when it comes to the Fuji.

Can you not get the Panasonic HD6/7 or 8 panel? The panel is very close to the Fuji, where as the PV500 TV is not quite as good as there is more processing going on.
