Panasonic 42PZ70b with 1.3 HDMI cables

I bought a new HDMI cable today (Chord Co. Silver Plus 1.3) and I've plugged it into the ps3/th-42pz70b but I'm getting no picture just the "hdmi" text on the screen.

Do I need to change any settings on the TV? I assume the cable will actually work even if the screen's not 1.3 compatible itself (which I'm led to believe it isn't)? Maybe I bricked my ps3 changing cables? :)

You should reset the video settings on your PS3 to see if that solves it. To do this, when you switch the PS3 on with the power button on the console, hold it in until it bleeps twice. This will clear the video settings reset it to default. The PS3 should then detect an HDMI connection. Make sure you are on the right HDMI input on your TV!

How much was the cable? You are correct, all cables are fully backwards compatible with HDMI 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc :smashin:

Thanks for the reply. Holding down the PS3 power button hasn't solved the issue, still a blank nothingness on HDMI1. I have the old cable plugged into HDMI2 and this is working fine still.

There must be someone else out there with a PS3 + 42PZ70b + Chord Cable Silver HDMI 1.3. This is an award winning cable recommended by What Hi-Fi etc. Really odd that its not working.

I see, so your other HDMI cable works fine when you plug it in to HDMI2? What happens if you move your old HDMI cable to port 1? Do you get a picture? If you do then it has to be an issue with the cable. How much did it cost? Save yourself the money and buy a cable for £10. There is no performance improvement whatsoever in £60 plus cables. There are plenty of sources on the net to confirm this. :smashin:

Thanks, yes I've tried it in port 1 and it also doesn't work. The cable's new so I can't beleive there's an issue there. My gut feel is either the cable just isn't compatible somehow or that there might be a setting in the TV/PS3 that I've missed that I need to set.

I haven't searched the Internet re. quality of HDMI cables but being a bit of a stereo nut I know from experience that the quality of cables in an analogue set-up makes a huge difference. Personally I can't beleive that What Hi-Fi would review such items and 5star them if they didn't make any difference :)

They are not analogue cables. They are all purely digital. As long as the signal reaches A to B with enough throughput the picture produced will be just as good. Sorry to burst your bubble. So, you have confirmed that your other HDMI cable works and the new cable does not work in this port? There you have it. Good luck ;)
