    Hi all,

Just popped in my local Currys to enquire & look at the 42pv500 and the 50pv500, after a long while the salesman told me that the 42pv500 had been discontinued. I said he must be mistaken as it is a newish model and the only HD ready 42" plasma from 'Panasonic' but he insisted it was true and to prove it to me, took me to the currys website & show me that the 42" is not shown & all stocks are 0. He said even: "if you wanted to buy and gave me the cash now I couldn't get you one as they are no more in stock and they have been discontinued!" ???????

Can anyone confirm or deny this puzzling information?

    Many thanks.

    Hi FluffyFromTheUk,

Yes, some shops still have stock and will sell them until stock run-out, but the salesman said that no one will be able to get new stock as the model has been discontinued by 'Panasonic'! ???

:hiya: 37PV500 on Currys site now (8.15pm on 15/8/05) at ultra low prices:-

    on its own £1,619.61
    pedestal £1,732.67
    pedestal & ES10 £1,795.75
    full stand £1,996.93

My 37PV500, pedestal and ES10 is arriving from JL this Friday and that was £1,979 after a price match - their normal RRP being £2,195 plus £149 (£2,344) for the pedestal - that's a £549 difference in favour of Currys!!

Have Curry's made a boo boo?!

I agree with you K0rn, I just ordered one (delivered Wednesday) and was concerned 'Panasonic' might have discontinued them because of the problems some owners have reported here. The salesman sounded positive Panny had discontinued them. Maybe a dealer can put us straight?

Please put on your conspiracy theory hats ....

Perhaps Panasonic want to resolve the issues but don't want to pay for recalls and replacements. So they're introducing a completely new model - the PV501 - looks the same as the PV500 but in a very slightly different shade of silver.

They also stole the aliens from Roswell and are using them to design the new panels :D

    Cheers,

    Nigel

I understand this question can open the door to all sort of speculations, like K0rn & nheather, I believe it is BS ... but the salesman was so convincing, I thought this would be the place to ask and get an answer from someone in the know. :)

I had heard it was Elvis doing the design, so there will be rhinestones on the bezel and the remote will be in the shape of a cheeseburger.

The prevoius viera PE30b wasn't around that long, so there could be some truth in it!

While big manufacturers are releasing a latest model the "new" one is already on the way.

    On the way? - certainly.

But not on the market any time this year... Panasonic would be stupid if they threw another model on the market right now. The PV500 is just starting to be a cash cow right now... so there´s no need to get a new one out until next year. (even if they got the new one almost ready)

thats a big drop for a "new" tv.........

If the Pioneer new models shine, then we shall see.

The PV5000 (released oct) will flash the following message subliminally:

'You do not have buyer's remorse. This is the greatest of all plasmas.Hitachi bad. You do not have buyers remorse.'

I emailed panasonic today and was told that they are not discontinuing the plasma, they just have no stock and are expecting delivery mid September. I also asked if they were to be any changes/fixes to the spotted faults to the plasma but I was told that they would be the same.

Still seems like a long time for them to obtain stock to me though.

Why on earth should you be unhappy? You just got one of the best plasmas around. I hope your gf doesn't visit this site, or she may be wishing she chose someone else as her bf... :)
