Does anyone know if the new Panasonic 42pa20 uses the the same glass as the new 6 series? Is it in fact a 6 series in a posh box with a TV tuner?

    Can anyone help?

    Cheers

    Dave

Exactly my question. And has anyone actually tested one out yet ? Also does it come with any sort of stand - desktop or otherwise ?

    Hi,

Well according to the av-sales website it has the same spec as the 6 series in terms of contrast etc so I guess it is.

    Cheers, Lee

it definately has the same specs as the '6'series but no DVI input, i have given connections available on another thread.

I have seen it in the flesh it is in a demo room in north London, and it looks absolutely stunning. it does not come with a stand, but there are 2 to choose from....a very nice desktop stand and the floor display stand.

Unfortunately i only got to see it when it arrived yesterday so did not see it running, but will get to look at the 6 series and the 42pa20 side by side tomorrow!!!!!

Shasonic in Tottenham court rd has one downstairs in their dem room too. Next to a pw6, hitachi 42 (I think 400) sony 42 mr1, jvc 42 and a pioneer 503.

    a very nice desktop stand

We had it come into our store on Friday and must admit that I don't like the stand. I think it's looks ugly and distracts you actually watching the screen.

    And £299!!!!!

    What a bloody rip-off!

I was going to start a thread TH-42PA20B vs TH-42PW6B.

There is one running over at avsforums

Details this side of the pond are even scarcer even though I found both models listed on more than 10 web sites. They are still discovering the specs in the US the hard way.

An example the TH-42PA20U (US model) does not support PAL. Is the TH-42PA20B going to support NTSC? We already know it has no DVI. (unlike the US version).

I see Liam has both models on his web site.
:lesson: Maybe if it is getting a little hot down south this weekend Liam could sit in front of the PC with a cold beer and put a little differences table together :D :D

Isn't it remarkable how little information there is for the informed buyer. Panasonic doesn't seem to have anything on its web site. All those web sites have the same little pictures and that is that.
Come on panasonic lets see a spec sheet and pictures of inputs etc.

    Rant over

    Cheers

    Dave

P.S. Lets hope Pioneer are better with some info on the new PDP434, as I'm sure that will be the next battle (If it turns up on time!):zonked:

P.P.S. The joys of wireless broadband, sitting in the sun with a cold beer!!

    Hello all

I'm not convinced Panasonic Consumer really want you to be informed buyers :)

I'm not a Panasonic Consumer dealer so its over to Liam as his company seems to have a Consumer and a Business account.

I'd be very surprised if the Plasma Display models and the Integrated PlasmaTV models had different plasma glass - two production lines producing 42" glass seems mighty extreme.

I'd expect they may have different front filters - the units with no bezel will have to have stronger glass I suspect.

I do know a man who's seen both models side by side and didn't much rate the PA20 - much as the TY-42TM6YB RGB SCART board in the TH-42PWD6BX display is not a patch on RGB via the VGA socket or BNC Board.

    Best regards

    Joe
