Any thoughts as to how this will compare to the 42 inch Pioneers?

It sounds like it could be quite a reasonable price at $1,799.95, not sure what that will equate to in the UK. Knowing the UK they will just change the $ sign for a £ one ;)

Also does anyone know what the expected release date for these is?

There a\re posts on here about a possible replacement for the PZ700 this is supposed to be PZ750. I've never heard or seen any posts on the model your talking about (PZ77) and there has been no confirmation of the new model being released in the UK to my knowledge as yet.

Your right here are few links, no referecne to 24fps though. Looks like a new range of entry plasmas. Full review on CNET.

Panasonic expands its line of 1080p High Definition Plasma TVs with the "more affordable" TH-42PZ77 42-inch, and TH-50PZ77 50-inch Plasma HDTVs. The TH-42PZ77 and TH-50PZ77 feature more than two million pixels and have a resolution of 1920 x 1080, with a contrast ratio of 10,000:1. Both Panasonic 1080p Plasmas also feature an anti-glare screen coating and a jack pack with two HDMI inputs, three S-video inputs, three composite video inputs and two component video inputs. An automatic pixel wobbling function for anti-image retention is included in both PZ77 series plasmas, as well as EZ-Sync technology that links Panasonic consumer home entertainment and video products to allow seamless control of the entire system using one remote and the SD Memory card slot. These new PZ77 series Plasmas include a SD memory card slot which allows consumers to view images on the big screen Panasonic Plasma, rather than the camera's small screen or a computer monitor.

The engadget link is useful, but the cnet link takes you to reviews of the 50PX77U model, i.e. the PX700 over here in europe. Old news that.
