I recently upgraded to the new Panasonic NVGS200 3CCD model from an early Panasonic DV Camera. I use Ulead Video Studio 8 and whilst the old camera had a fire wire connection and was no problem to capture from the new camera only has a USB connection and is not being recognised by VideoStudio 8. Has anyone else had this problem and maybe know the fix??

    Thanks

No firewire socket on the NVGS200?
    Find that hard to believe.

    Are you sure?

the firewire cable i had with my last panasonic doesn't fit, the only connection is via a USB cable.

It must fit, unless one was the larger 6 pin type which I didn't think you find on camcorders.
If so then simply purchase a new firewire cable with the correct plugs on each end.
There are only two types...4 pin (smaller) and 6 pin (large)

Whatever you do don't use USB (1 or 2), it's not recommended for video transfer (as you have already experienced!)

Remember the usb fitting is very similar to the firewire one. I"ve got the Panny 120 and its easy to see the confusion.

Well I've just done a quick internet search on your camcorder and came up with the following specs:

    Panasonic NVGS200

    3CCD
    2.32MEGAPixels
    10 x Optical Zoom + Telemacro Mode
    2.5in LCD Monitor
    SD Memory Multi-Media Card
    MPEG 4 Internet Movie
Simultaneous Motion Video & Picture Recording
    1.7sec Quick Start
    Built-in Flash
    WEBCAM Function
    USB 2.0 Connection
    DV IN/OUT
    Manual Focus Ring
    Colour NightView
    Leica Dicomar Lens

so according to the specs above the cam does have a DV (aka firewire) port.

    Mark.

The users operating instructions clearly show a DV terminal (aka firewire, or i-link) next to a s-video socket under a cover on the back of the camera at the bottom right hand corner of the battery - and below the on-off switch.

Thats why you guys get the big bucks!! The number of times I have looked and relooked and turned the camera round and round and read and reread the manual.

Listen, thanks all sorry if I wasted your time.
