    Hello all

This is my first post so do be gentle with me!

I was desperate to get my hands on the 37 or 42 PV500 but I've decided to hold back a few months to see what happens to the price.

I'm new to the plasma game so I'm curious as to what drop in price we can expect to see. I was hoping that within the next 6 months, the 37", which is currently around £1,600 to £2,200, might come down to near £1,000. Is this reasonable to think?

    Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I apologise if this has been covered in a previous thread but if it has, I couldn't find it.

    Cheers
    Kop

Usually plasma prices fall around 30-35% per year. So in 6 months if you have luck you can expect a 15-20% price reduction. So if the price is £1,600 now, I'd suggest a price around £1,300 in 6 months.

However, Panasonic is opening a new fab in September and rumours are that they'll drop prices by about 15-20% on August, 28th.

The other point is that with all goods, there is a point at which no manufacturer will go price wise. All they do is bring out a new improved witha new improved price, rather like laptops.

That's true. But as far as I've heard this price reduction feast will stay with us until 2007. Then price reduction will slowly but surely slow down a bit. This applies to both plasma and big LCD screens.

The price drop thing, hate to pour cold water on it, but no manufacturer in the world is stupid enough to say 'Hey guys, don't buy anything from us for 3 weeks, we are just about to cut the price'. If it were true, it would be highly secret, known only to the board of directors, not tarted about on the net.

The information about the price drop came from CED, which is usually quite reliably in such things, I've been told. Well, let's just wait and see. Just 1.5 weeks to go!

Sure, you can see my logic here though. Still, as few of my clients read the forum, I have no problem!

Yeah, I do understand your logic. But leaks happen all the time these days, while officials "decline to comment". So I'm still positive that the price drop will come true.

I'm sorry if that rumor decreases the orders you're receiving! However, if the price drop is true, you'll surely get a bunch more orders afterwards!

    :D

But as we used to say in the days when I was in Semiconductors, "If no one can ship, why are we discussing lower pricing"? :hiya:

Ah, the bottom line of the capitalist society, supply and demand. As they have no PV500's how likely are they to cut the price?

37PV500 for £1000, I'd be amazed if you ever get one for this price.

I have a 37PV500 on order due to be delivered on the 26th August. Do I put off the delivery date to after the 28th August just in case ?

Well, it may just be a wrong rumor. And even if it's true it also may only apply to the US. Nobody knows for sure.

Maybe I shouldn't have said anything in the first place...

No, course you should say it, this is a forum, you speak your mind as long as it's not offensive. It's up to the reader to check the veracity of any info, weigh up the possibilities. The story came from somewhere, not from Panasonic UK though. I have my spies, and they know nothing. But they are not on the board, so cannot categorically deny it.

    Thanks guys. Food for thought...

I've decided to hang back and get a Philips 32PF5520 LCD for now (wanted to experiment!). But I'm still drooling in anticipation for the Panny pv500!

    Cheers

It may also be of interest to some that you can now pick up a th42pe50 for £1300 at unbeatable!

So prices do go down hill and I am sure they will for the pv500 but may take a while.
