    Hi all,

I have a pal xbox, and need to pull from it a component Y-U-V sinal for my TV, and an optical digital signal for surround sound.

Ive found optical digital cables for sound, but the vision side of the cabel is only a 21 pin scart.
And, on the other hand, ive found a component cable, but that only has normal stereo left/right signals.

I want half of one and half the other!

Are there any cables ( for pal xbox ) that have seperate component signals for the visual side of things, and and optical digital cable for the audio?

    thanks

If you do a search you will find loads about this, you cannot get a compnent cable in the uk that has an optical connection but you can get them overseas and they will work with pal xbox. A search will reveal the threads with links to the correct leads.

    hmmmm,Im confused now:rolleyes:

Ok,I think I made a mistake in buying this cable:
    http://www.consoleplus.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=34_49&products_id=252

Obviously now I realise that the sound is gonna be prety crap cos its only got the standard phono leads for audio...

    but this 1:
    http://www.whitedog.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=9_47&products_id=82

..has the optical audio cable but only standard svideo or rgb scart for video:confused:

So do I gain sound quality with the second 1 but lose picture quality?:suicide:

Jason, it seems only the Xbox high definition pack ( or the gamestar equivilent ) have both component video as well as optical digital sound.

Ive discovered the TV im getting has component inputs labeled : Y,Pb,Pr

Can anybody shed some light on this type of component input? Would the high definition pack work in this example?
Im suddenly worried that it wont work.

( I know I wont get Progressive scan due to my xbox being PAL, but i would still like the component video )

Thanks Kramer, but being the dumb ass i am, Im still a little confused.
I guess what im simply asking is, does the xbox output Y,Pb,Pr component through the HD AV packs.

Im not concerned about Progressive scan.

Y, Pb, Pr is progressive component.

Y, Cb, Cr is interlaced component.

A "standard" Pal xbox will out put 525i (or 480i?) via its Y, Cb, Cr (component outputs) but you'll need a US/Japanese or modified xbox for progressive scan & higher resolutions (games permitting).

Component is different from RGB & slightly better IMO, even in interlaced form.

For £23 delivered, if you've got a component capable display you can't really go wrong with the hi def kit.

Thanks Kramer. Thats cleared it up. So my xbox will work with my ( soon to have ) plasma with YPbPr inputs ( also labled YCbCr ) using the high-def pack. Yippee!!

Now .... whats the deal with the gamecube? ( yes i have one of them too! )
Can I assume the same applies when using the cube component cable?

    thanks :0)
