i dunno what the guys who played sm64 on PAL wii and said it was 60hz were smoking but they are very wrong.

i just played it and it wasnt even at the original PAL speed!

unless this is because i havent got a component cable nintendo will be getting strong words from me! its a disgrace and certainly not as i remember it!

    anyone else played and agree?

I've always played it on a Japanese N64 and i have to say the Wii version is definatley slower even if you set your screen to 60hz using an RGB Scart, so i wont be buying any more VC games until Nintendo do something about it.

im sure if you had played SM64 at PAL and NTSC speed and then played the wii version, youd be pretty ****** off that you just wasted £6.99 too. its not like these games are free!

Yeah its slower than I remember it - do I care - no. It's still great fun (to me at least) and that's all that matters.

You only really notice any difference when Mario does his backflips and somersaults but other than that it's fine

The only way they will do anything about it is if people write to them and complain.
Fine, some people are happy (and were happy) with inferior, slowed down and bordered versions of many games. There are lots of games that didn't even get a PAL release (Sin and Punishment..) but as it stands, Nintendo don't even intend to make those games available to us on VC either. :thumbsdow
    Get writing or emailing now.....

So those of you that don’t notice or couldn’t care less didn’t notice all the stuttering for example when the camera swoops down under the bridge at the beginning?

Don’t get me wrong I love the Wii so I’m not Nintendo bashing. All I want is a decent quality game that I paid £7 for when I could have a better running version through illegitimate ways

Speed is the same as I remember it, and I haven't seen any stuttering either.

game seems to run fine with me, i dont notice any difference in speed from my N64 copy. As for the stutering frame-rate. I have read about this on other forums, but im about 4hrs in and havent seen 1 single frame drop while playing or during a cut scene.

Maybe u might want to re-download it, maybe somthin buggered up.

If i dont get slow down or stuttery frames then no one should.

If people are happy then that's fine. If people know no better or don't wish to know any better then again, that's fine.
Many of the older Nintendo (and Sony..) titles were notorious in having poor conversions to PAL - 17.5% slower, huge black bars etc. If people are still happy with them now - 10 years later then that's fine too.
The issue is, many people are completely unaware of how poor many of our versions are in comparison. Nintendo have a great opportunity of giving everybody access to these versions but have chosen not to. Even though we're prepared to pay for them.
I remember playing Waverace on a mate's N64 and being staggered at how poor and slow the framerate was in comparison to the US version. Laptimes were about 20% less on US version. He wasn't quite as happy then........

I can fully understand people being annoyed especially having played NTSC versions but to the majority ignorance is bliss!

    Exactly..:(
I can almost imaging people with their fingers in their ears shouting "La la la, I can't hear you..." ;)
But through threads like this, people may just realise that there are better things around and by the smallest of efforts, you never know, things could change....
I believe imported US machines do connect to US servers so they can play the proper versions of the games. Obviously importing can have disadvantages too - but Nintendo are, yet again, forcing people who want to play their games how they were intended to be played into importing... :(

I totally agree with that! I have no idea why nintendo have region locked the VC games. It would take no effort whatsoever to have them all available! Hopefully things will change in the future!

the only reason i see for having european versions is so you can have french and german text and backwards compatability for 50hz tv's

but if i can make a n64 rom run at 60 or 50hz just by doing a little hex editing why cant nintendo? heck even free emulators have a 50/60hz option :suicide:

I don't have a problem with having the european games available - of course they should be - for the language reasons. And I don't think Nintendo should change them from 50Hz to 60Hz - if it could cause problems/bugs or give them an excuse to delay stuff due to 'testing' etc.
All I'm asking for is there to be a choice of which version I can get. What's the problem with having 2 Marios available? Clearly labelled 'originally available in US' or something similar...

To be honest I'm not talking about Mario specifically - I think there are (very) small borders and the speed may be similar too - I've not played it (on Wii) but have heard it's a good job. Equally, I hadn't heard it ran at 60Hz but had been optimised for 50Hz..
Most other games though and our versions were (so will be..) inferior..:(

EDIT: just googled for some info. A bit at wiki but I'm sure there's much more info out there....
One comment (opinion..) - "If Nintendo only intends to release exact copies of PAL releases, for example, then many games simply will not appear on the PAL Virtual Console."..
