Lecson DVD1000 from Debenhams for £169, as awful as it is, it's still PAL Prog enabled. You can find Arcam's DV88 for around £499, which you can upgrade to Pal Prog. And Denon's DVD2800MKII is available for £499, which is also PAl Prog.

    Sharon,

He said DV88....not DV88+...If you can get a DV88+ for that price tell me as it undercuts Arcam dealer price by a large margin!

Where did you find the 88+ for £850?

I've also heard people say the 88 Plus can be bought for £900, which places are doing it for that price please?

My local shop will price match any official Arcam dealer if I can tell them who it is! :)

Leicester HiFi will do 10% discount off RRP on all products (i.e. £900 for the DV88+) ... and they are an official Arcam dealer.

Philips are bringing out a couple of cheap prog scan DVD players in May for $99 and $119. Don't know what the uk price will be but I would expect them to be £99 and £119.

    Might be worth waiting.

    Cheers,
    Cal.

    From www.blufi.co.uk :

Discover the Progressive Scan Difference: Philips DVD726, DVD727, and DVD750
With Philips progressive scan technology, even and odd TV lines are written at the same time. Both fields are sent simultaneously to the screen creating a full image in one sweep using the maximum resolution. This results in a razor-sharp, flicker-free picture that is relaxing for the eyes. The new DVD726, DVD727, and DVD750 also feature advanced video processing offering consumers an accurate well-defined picture. To ensure high compatibility with consumers video display devices, both models include component, composite and S-Video outputs.

Additionally, both players feature playback of DVD-Video, DVD+RW, DVD+R, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3-CD, S-VCD, VCD and Picture CD discs. The DVD726 features Smart Picture, Digital Zoom and also contains digital coaxial and optical outputs, providing the highest level and quality audio connection. With a suggested retail price of $99, the DVD726 will be available in May 2003. The DVD727 features four times video upsampling, 24bit/192kHz audio processing and a universal remote. The DVD727 will have a suggested retail price of $119 and be available in May 2003. The DVD750 is a DVD/VCR combination model that features progressive scan DVD playback and a 4 head HiFi VHS.

Offering one touch recording, a unified remote, and a full set of audio and video connections (optical, coaxial, component, composite, S-video, and RF input/output) this model offers top quality in a convenient space saving design. The DVD750 will have a suggested retail price of $179 and be available in early summer.

I can recommend the Harman Kardon DVD 25. Harman now do their own firmware upgrade which gives you R1 & R2 with both NTSC Progressive as well as PAL Progressive. I got mine from Sevenoaks HI-FI with the upgrade pre done for £350. Bargain.:p

As progressive PAL is slowly getting an official status, an official h/k firmware with PAL & NTSC progressive might be available. However, I see no way the company releasing a multi region FW. It must be hacked or unofficial.

I actually bought my DVD88+ for £900 too from Peter Tyson in Carlisle - they too are an official Arcam dealer. But the lowest price I was quoted was £859, can't remember who from though - delivery was too long and I'm an impatient weavil....

The firmware update was carried out while I waited prior to me purchasing it using a Harman Kardon (printed) cd Rom which also detailed the upgrade instructions. I was told the disk was provided by the 'chap from Harman Kardon'. I would guess that this disc is only available to retailers rather than to the general public.

They say that the earlier sample models needed to be upgraded but the newer batch are already enabled.

Looks like i'll be getting this one.

Are you happy with its performance?

I hope to partner it to my hs10,should be good.

Marantz DV4300 is PAL Prog out of the box, just need to enable it in the menu.

These are American models. There's a fair chance the European version will not have PS, let alone PAL PS.

Vulkan - I have been using the HK DVD25 with the Pannny AE100 for a couple of weeks now and I am blown away by it's performance. A tip I read elsewhere is that if you are watching a R2 DVD using PAL Progressive to set the Video mode to 2 (within the EZ menu) - most R2 discs are wrongly coded and in most cases Video mode 2 (film) gives significantly improved results. .

Another vote for the H/K dvd25 - I use it with a Sanyo Z1 - progressive output is excellent on both NTSC and PAL material.

You guys should consider Skyworth 1050D also.
The cost is 270€ plus toll+VAT, and the player has Faroudja DCDI (improved video quality) and PAL progressive out-of-box.
Also a VGA output, which gives best results video quality wise.

I got one myself, it left Hong Kong this monday and I got a call today that it has arrived to Finland, so pretty damn fast :)

However, no experience with it as of yet, can't wait to get my hands on it.

I also thought of either H/K 25 or Philips 963, but after reading about problems with Philips, and poorer (in comparison) video quality with H/K I decided to go with Skyworth.

Yes I ordered it from www.hivizone.com
S&H were 80 euros to Finland, that's pretty damn much but the delivery was damn fast and I guess it includes some kind of insurance as well.

Sure, it does them both. I would presume the picture quality is very good, however it depends greatly on the used connection. VGA offers the best quality.

Did you try your new Skyworth yet, what's it like?

I also saw the New Skyworth 2750PW and the Nintaus N9769 on Hivizone web site as well which they claim are both Pal Prog with Faroudja DCDI . Did you look at these?
