In order to "display" PAL progressive scan on a TV, does the TV have to support PAL progressive scan or will PAL progressive scan work on any progressive scan cabable TV?

It needs to support Pal Progressive. Unfortunately, no current UK TV's do support this with the exception of a Loewe with Q2500 chassis and VGA board installed. Even then, the signal must be fed through a transcoder (unless your DVD player supports PAL Prog and has VGA out) as the input method is VGA. Apparantly, the picture reproduced is as close to perfect as you can get but the VGA display on the Loewe does not allow for correct aspect ratio display. This means you need to manually adjust the H & V Size controls to suit. Also, it is impossible to get certain aspect ratio's to display correctly as these controls are limited. If you do a search on Loewe Pal Progressive you should bring up a few interesting threads.

It has been rumoured that the new Toshiba ZD26 Tv's accept Pal Progressive (they definately do NTSC) but I haven't been keeping up with that thread. Do a search for more information.

    :)

    Thanks.

But if the DVD player can output a PAL progressive scan signal, then any progressive scan capable TV will display as PAL progressive?

No, the TV must be able to sync to to PAL Progressive. If the TV is NTSC Progressive only then it will not display the Pal Progressive source.

As far as I know most Plasma Screens can accept a 720p Pal Progressive signal but I'm not really up on Plasma's so don't quote me on that :).

Hmmmm I am interested in the answer to this one as I have to admit I was blindling believing that by getting a Toshiba 42WP16 Plasma and a Denon DVD-2800 MKII would give me PAL & NTSC Prog. Scan!!

I was gonna use the component outputs from the DVD direct to the component inputs on the Tosh (which is a Panny by any other name)

    Hi,

    720P is not pal progressive. It's 576P....

Not all plasma's will sync to such a signal so you need to check with Philips. To echo JohnT. Yes the Toshiba will.
