Is noone bothered by the fact that on a standard def. plasma you are loosing(or getting downscaled) up to 90 lines of resolution from a pal DVD picture?

:) Well actually the poor black levels and softer picture are what´s keeping me from buying a Pio. I think that poor black levels in my totally black room would just be untolerable.

    Keyser,

It doesn't bother me in the slightest, PAL DVD's still look better than NTSC that run on the panel's native rate. Buying a Pio won't be any better, 'cause that has to upscale.

But upscaling and making full use of a signal must be better.. Anyways, that wasn´t my point.. just the fact that you are not fully using the already limited resolution of DVD bothers me, that a cheap CRT actually has more resolution would bother me. Because resolution really does matter much for PQ.. just look at the difference between HD and SD.. and you can get an overall idea of how resolution can improve the picture by the pixelplus or drc(an idea..do not include the pixelplus and drc arfitacts.)

And HD will come in the next years, if not for TV then in the consoles first, which will be much better on HD plasmas.

Check out the HD-DVD sticky thread in the DVD Talk section, this issue has been covered in some detail.
