PAL on 480 rows? Maths wrong!

    PAL = 576 lines

    On 480 line plasma/LCD we lose 576-480 = 96 lines.

    96 divided by 576 (to give us percentage of PAL picture lost) = 16.6667%.

    Therefore all those posts where I said 20% I meant rounded up to nearest dectile. ;)

    Scaling NTSC's 480 lines to PAL, that's a 20% increase in picture resolution (96/480=20%) but that is irrelevant here.

    Timings a bit off !!, I stand next to Stoo, corrected !! :smashin:

    However - NO ONE SHOULD BE LEAVING TILL THAT 1% IS RECOVERED !!, I MEAN 1% OF 576 LINES IS 5.7 LINES OF RESOLUTION !!!!!!!! :laugh: :laugh: :rotfl:

    I think that you'll find that 17.77% - 16.67% = 1.1% :D :clap: :rotfl:

    Yep.

    Maths and simple arithmetic is binary (pun ;) ) because an answer is either right or wrong.

    1+1=3.1 is no more correct that 1+1=4 because it's "nearly" the right answer.

    Or perhaps these days in "bog standard comprehensives" (to quote Tony Blair) one can argue that sums are "nearly" right. :clown:
