    Hi,

I painted over a varnished wooden front door today and yellow is starting to show through.

I sanded the door then applied undercoat & primer then applied 2 coats of satin and the yellow is still showing.

Whats the best way to proceed with this?

More coats? Or a stain blocker or some sort?

Take the door off and get it dipped and start from scratch. I say this as I have been reading some research recently on how layers of paint contribute to fire spread. Something that has only come to light in recent years.

New door is what I would do I'm afraid. I'd have done exactly what you done re the prep work.

How long can you do without a front door? Getting it dipped will take a while and then waiting for it to dry out will take weeks. It'll never be the same after either.

We got every door in our old house dipped. Biggest mistake of my life.
