Pace twin - stereo output

Hi

I've got a Pace twin attached to a new portable TV which is mono only. I figured the best way to get stereo out is through the twins audio leads (red/white) (and I'm not interested in home cinema) - however, I don't have the hi-fi in the bedroom and the cost of a decent amp + speakers is too much on my budget (and would take up too much space). My solution would be to buy a pair of powered speakers - such as those sold for home pcs - will these work and does anybody have any suggestions for under £50?

I tried this for listening to radio from the twin and it worked fine, however in the end I bought a micro system and used that so I can't suggest what speakers to buy.
