whatever i do, however i try changing the settings it always outputs in stereo. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, in order to get to the initial 'speaker configuration' selection screen...and 5.1 WAS an option available there! I could click it, but when i did it would then instantly switch where it said '5.1' back to saying 'stereo' and it would then play the sound, in stereo

any ideas? am using logitech z5500, connected via optical

thanks

Are you sure it's not a stereo track you're playing?

yes lol, tried a 5.1 movie and dts songs too. I think that the fact that the pc os showing a 2 speaker configuration in winows proves this

also, in 'sound' the only option that comes up is '2 channel'

Well you have to ask mate :)

What OS are you running?

I have a soundmax onboard job (non HD) and my missus has the same (HD version though) and both allow you to choose 5.1, even though both of us don't use it. These are 2-3 YO comps.

I've not looked into it properly with us running Vista and 7, but it seems ok.

I'd be looking at making sure all the drivers from Asus, MS (try OSupdates) and especially Asus are up to date.

I suspect you've already done that though.

That apart, I don't know mate :(

The joys of computers, have you tried the computer related Forums here? Its not quite speaker related.
