Overscan with DVDs?

I was messing around with my HTPC and was running the same film on it and on the PS3.

I noticed that on the PS3 there was some overscan. Edges of the film were cut off. Has anyone has this problem? (and found a solution?)

The PS3 is connected via HDMI to a Sony X46 1080p set. Resolution is set to 1080p which of course drops tp 576 (or whatever it is ) when viewing a DVD.

BluRay films and games run fine with no overscan. Its just with DVDs!

I get overscan with DVD's playing at 576p too, and also at 1080i. Don't get anything at 720p. I put it down to my TV treating the 720p signal as a PC one (it shows 1280x720 60hz when I press the info button) and showing all the display like a PC monitor?

Does it do it with a normal DVD player instead?
