I have been trying to get through on the phone to them all morning to place an order. It's either engaged (I presume with other people trying to contact them) or just rings unanswered. Are they going down the pan?

Yep - i have never ever managed to get to them on phone - as regards service, it's a mixed bag. I've placed some 5/6 orders online and was always dealt with promptly & with decent(ish) service. Last order I tried to place, i guess they where not interested in selling cos' they said they needed clearance for my visa & after 10 days it had not cleared (i'm sure i had no problem from my side) - so i just cancelled!

ive never really had a problem myself but a few people i know have. basically its a great service if you get your goods on time and in working order. its when it comes down to contact for RMA's etc they apprently are terrible. i tend not to really use them any more as i find their pricing isnt that competitive

I'd avoid www.overclockers.co.uk just because for the simple reason of you just cannot get through on the phones, and you can't e-mail them!!

I'd avoid www.microdirect.co.uk as you can't get through on the returns line to return anything.

Any chimp can sell stuff cheaply, but its when things go wrong that you find out who is good, bad or ugly!

I've bought loads of stuff from Ebuyer and find them to be generally good. If something does go wrong you have to use their electronic ticketing and mail to sort it out but I've always ended up happy.
I've also bought from Kustompcs who are very good with after sales service even if they are not the cheapest. Sometimes it's worth paying extra for the knowledge that if anything goes wrong it will get sorted.

similar to sly, im also able to go in store and get anything i wish to purchase, and have an option to be able to return anything *although i havent had to* but even in store its constantly full of people, and the guys behind the counter are pretty useless at the best of times lol.
I tried to contact them for technical support on a product once, well, tried and tried and tried lol took days for me to get through (id have gone in person except i arent sure if theyd help and i cant drive) but eventually when i did they basically told me they couldnt help and that was it! lol but i find theyr ok for consumables and the odd cheap product, but only if youre local! lol well in my experience anyway!
back to buying online though, not that i have, but they seem pretty decent and have been around for a while, and judging by the amount of people everytime i go im sure they'l be ok financially for a few years!

I spend £1000's each year with OCUK, and have never had a problem yet...?
I must have been buying from there for 3 years, I never use anybody else for home purchases..!

I've bought everything from 20"TFTs to CPUs and have never had a single problem...ever

I always use the Amtrack next-day delivery service rather than parcelfarce, wonder if that is what makes the difference?

Tried ordering from OCUK a few times as they were the only people that had what I wanted.....all orders had incorrect items in and one order I never got a refund from. Cannot tell people enough to stay away from them.

Never been able to fault Microdirect.....Scan are OK, at least they seem better then they have been in the past.

Still, I use MicroDirect almost exclusively....and I order a LOT of kit.

Granted you can't email them but you use the webnote system and i've always had a prompt reply.

I usually use www.over-clock.co.uk , fantastic service every time

I think u'll find that there is always someone that has had bad experiences with the many etailers on the web.

I have ordered stuff in the past from:

    Scan
    Komplett
    Microdirect
    Savastore
    Overclockers
    dabs
    misco

and I have never had any bad experiences so far (touch wood), the worst i've experienced was stuff not in stock, but then i just cancelled and ordered elsewhere.

The last company i ordered from was scan (just built a new system). Delivery was within a few days, and nothing was wrong with any of the parts, and price was competative.

I've ordered a quite a lot of stuff off Overclockers over the past couple of years.

75% of my habitual upgrades come from there ;)

I built a couple of machines for the odd mate/relative and used them for most of that kit as well and so far they've never dropped the ball.

    Ebuyer on the other hand.......

If it's in stock when you order something all well and good, if it's not - they are worse than most unfortunately - their website is awful to navigate as well.

Scan are very good and Kustom PC's are probably the best from a service point of view, nothing seems to be too much hassle for them!

But I guess at the end of the day, one persons good experience with a company can never be universal. As good as someone may be at their job people are human and unfortunately mistakes can and do happen, not ideal but I guess I'm just a realist or am I being too negative?

    Tex

I have to agree with you about the Ebuyer site being awful to navigate, as soon as you pick out a specific manufacturer whose products you want to view you have lost your original choice and so have to reselect from the the menu at the side again, I find it very frustrating.

I've ordered from OcUK a few times and the service was fine, but that was quite some time ago now, I've not bought anything from them this year. Years ago I had a faulty Pentium motherboard (for a P200MMX processor, so that indicates how long it was!) and they swapped that fine. I've heard a couple of bad stories about their after sales service recently but I couldn't comment myself.

I've had good service when buying something from Scan earlier this year, but again I cannot comment on their after sales performance.

I can, however, comment on Aria. I bought an expensive monitor from them in July because of their dead pixel checking service. The initial delivery was fine and a friend also bought one after seeing it. But then after only 10 days it failed, and it's been a nightmare battling with them since. They finally sorted it out this week and so far so good (I'm touching all the wood I can see around me!). I would have bought more from them but they can forget that now. I won't buy anything from them again, and nor will my friends.

After some bad experiences at OC I have now moved to www.coolestpc.co.uk. I know the chap there and he prides himself on aftersales service.

Tell them Matt B sent you !.

If youve had a good experience with Overclockers youve been lucky. There is, and I will see if I can get it off a m8 of mine, a website dedicated to the positive army of overclockers customers who've had problems with them. The name isn't related to overclockers because they took it further. Apparently the 'anti' website though is putting together an action to force oc's to respond to some customers still waiting 12 months to get their complaints sorted!

    I have used:-

    Scan
    Redstore
    Dabs
    Ebuyer
    Komplett
    Overclockers
    Overclock
    Microdirect
    Savastore

None of them, bar Komplett, offer much of an aftersales service, but I'd rank them in the following order, and why.

Komplett. Pricey but so far excellent after sales.
Ebuyer. Crap site, lengthy wait for CS, but their prices are ace!
Microdirect. Fairly good prices. No issues as yet
Overclock. They were great, but sadly went belly up.
Scan. Expensive. High P&P costs, but used to have good CS. Seems thats changed now.
Redstore. Cutting edge prices, but awful after sales.
Dabs. Once, the very best. Now, ok price wise, but terrible after sales. A real shame. :(
Savastore. Aggggggggghhhh! Nightmare place! Bought three items (hoped for 3rd time lucky) off there, all duff, and an absolute mare' to get them to take them back!
    OC's. nuff said.............

    Hope that helps. :D

I use them but sometimes I wish I didn't. The website is great with a picture of every item which I like. But if things go wrong they go wrong. :)

Sending a cheque is a waste of time.

tip: use there webnotes system to contact them instead of phone.
