Guys, i recently got a new athlon 3500 based system. I have a leadtek 6800gt graphics card and i fancy overclocking it. Last time i overclocked a graphics card the slider was in the drivers applet.

I can't find anything int the nvidia desktop manager etc.

What software should i use to do this? any help would be great!

download coolbits ..do a google search for it, once that's installed you'll see the overclocking facilities (clock frequency settings) in the desktop manager on the Geforce 6800gt tab.

    Cheers,
    Andy

PowerStrip might work well with your card too.

thanks for the replys guys - i installed coolbits, but the tab hasn't appeared. Also when i try to run hardpage it says it cannot detect core memory speed and that coolbits should be enabled, though it is enabled!

    any ideas??

400 and 1100 (whichever one is 350 set to 400 and whichever is 1000 set to 1100). Works well for me! They're 6800ultra speeds by the way.

    Cheers,
    Andy.

can i ask why overclock at this time ?

these cards easily handle everything thrown at them at the moment

Just overclocking for the fun of it - i'm not leaving it set all the time

i overclocked it the other night at around 400 but 3d mark bailed and the pc rebooted! I then oc'ed again at a more conservative 375, the 3dmark(03) score didn't really seem a lot higher than the non overclocked score!

Also, should i set the fan to "always on"? or should i leave it to its own devices?

If it's got dynamic cooling it'll lower the clock frequency of the GPU when it's not in heavy use and should make it live longer. Having the fan set on high all the time will keep it cool and increase it's longevity, but i'll also make your PC less energy efficient and it'll increase the noise your PC makes a little
