Outside build for a movie room

Not sure how to start
And more for me to log as we go

A friend of mine got me into home cinema nearly 20 years ago. One of my goals like everyone into this hobby is to have there own dedicated room.
I few years back we decided to re build the front of the house which in turn gave me my first room. This room is around 3.0m x 4.0m ,but was or is a funny shape. with the room in the house there’s not overly much we can or could do around sound proofing so I’d watch a film mrs would go up stairs and watch tv as you couldn’t do it downstairs.
On and off I’ve had builders to to quotes for garage conversation or possible other jobs to gain a different room but nothing really came of it or too expensive.

Due to a small accident someone hit the front garden wall just coming out of the pandemic.
We advertised the job and a builder came quoted and repaired the wall .on his last vist I mentioned to wife regarding putting a building up for the movie room and she told me to get a quote and go from there. The builder put in his quote and we’ve excepted.

So the job really is 3 jobs

Job 1 is to remove the garden

Job 2 is to remove the conservatory and put in external new door

Job 3 is to build the outside building
The building will be be external
3.4m x4.4m x 2.4 or 2.5 high
When finished hopefully
2,9 x 3.9 x 2x1or 2.3 not massive but around the size of the room in the house so more than enough for myself

Ya cheers

I’ve have to admit I’ve read it a couple of times. it’s a lovely build ,and if this turns out anywhere near I’ll be happy.

I think it’s going to be similar but where going wooden frame to concrete block with render coat and cladding just on the front
(I say this and the builders struggling for timber
So may end up with a inner skin of concrete block rather than a timber frame)

Not too bad a day we’ve hit the depth we need to to get to .Tipper not turned up so load behind and the last load ready to go.apparently Monday morning then Monday evening.
Should have the footing made and ready for concrete. not sure on day for concrete also think all the timbers been ordered

Given that you're digging down in the garden, why don't you make the room taller - a lot taller?

Planning permission should be from existing ground height (unless you've had to agree something specific) and making it taller won't cost much more (same foundations and floor, same roof).

Hi

Sorry not quite sure how to answer but happy with 2.5 meters my current room internal height is 2.1m and got used to like that height

Good luck with the build and looking forward to seeing updates on this thread.

This sounds like it's going to be an epic build.

Finally got dug out and concrete poured for footings.
concrete blocks and sand arrived not sure if this is for the retaining wall or the building but hoping for the wall.
Also collected the heat pump/air con unit for the room. Was looking into just a air con unit which looked easy enough to install but no sure if there’s going to be a fuse box directly in the room to wire straight into. The heat pump works straight off a plug so definitely easy to work with.
Only issue possibly will be that we need a 180mm drill bit to drill 2 holes.builder says he may have one
Will see ,if not can get one off Amazon I think.B1268AC6-FE03-47AD-9DE5-1BAB9309C28F.jpegAA9067B0-AD82-49F0-95ED-0559DB736EB6.jpeg313CEF0E-808E-463A-8D90-A02FB9FCDC33.jpegB79071CB-CC6B-4809-A8E0-A04354621000.jpeg1BA95F72-90DE-4B1C-AD94-172BEB55ED90.jpegD88D68CC-936A-404D-8555-6012A69B140F.jpeg6B4B8325-5026-4D1D-B757-967718CBFDE4.jpegC3CEC9CB-DEE8-4631-A5C2-10DACB8CAA48.jpegAFA74F34-3A1B-4176-98C6-905D3B4BAE8E.jpeg

Nice progress.

What unit do you need outside for that air conditioner?

REJI

unit I’ve purchased non as it’s all in one unit
So just 2 big holes think 1 will be an inlet the other an exhaust port

Should hopefully look like this from outside

Oh. I've looked at the option of getting air con, and the massive outside condensers have put me off.
Presumably the unit you have has some compromises compared with the split units?

To be honest I’ve know idea till it’s running.possible in a couple months. I would have gone with the split unit if it hadn’t needed to be run directly into a fuse box .

You're garage foundations are better than my house lol

Glad it's going well. Keep us posted.
Ya me and couple friends are thinking that they look a little bit on the big size

Maybe it’s the next Amazon depot
Guess we’ll find out in a couple months

And finally a little bit more movement. due to weather here it brought the job to stop last week.
So re started today so concrete footings have gone in and to be honest not sure what’s happening tomorrow so can’t really comment
