Hi, This is my first post so be gentle...

Me & My Dad are investigating the possible purchase of an LCD/DLP Projector. However I have been told that a projector is basically rubbish by a friend unless you are running a HCPC. Is this true? The equipment we have at the moment is as follows:

Denon AV11SR Amp (Brand New) (S-Video output)

Samsung DVD-1E Video/DVD Combi (We know its a bit rubbishy but were hopin to change it soon.)

    Panasonic Sky Digibox

    Bose Acoustimass 15.

Can we use this lot to output to a projector without spendin any more money on equipment apart from cables and coverters or do u really need a HCPC?

    Thanks,

    Adam

I think your "friend" is being a little harsh with their comment.

A HTPC system may well give the best results (with a little luck and a lot of tweaking), but there are plenty of good Home Cinema projectors that will work with your present kit and put big smiles on your faces.

Basic common sense applies here. Avoid projectors designed mainly for business use, go for something where Home Cinema is a priority. Just search the forum posts and you'll quickly narrow down the choices.

    Regards

I have to be careful here, I don't want to be accused of being biased. Here goes...

Pana AE100. Low price (£1300 ish) Low resolution 16:9 panel.
    Sanyo PLV30. Good black level. 4:3 panel. £1900 - £2000
Philips Monroe. Good with 16:9 & 4:3 screens. Recent price drop £1900 ish
Sony VW10. Hi res 16:9 panel Replaced by VW11 so discounted, some available for around £2500

    Regards
