Output to external speakers

Sorry for what must be a basic question, but here goes......

I have a new Samsung Tv (UE40D6530) and would like to improve the sound quality. Budget is now very limited. Longer term will be an AV amp.

For now, I'm looking for a compromise.

Apart from the Tv, the setup comprises a Sky HD box and a Panasonic Blu-Ray recorder (DMR-BWT700).

I have spare floor-standing hi-fi speakers, and Arcam separates (A85 Integrated and P85 Power amplifiers) which might be hooked up....?

I've tried several options but the the only working solution so far is to use the headphone socket and route it to an old Altec Lansing sub-woofer box, and then out to a pair of speakers.

There must be something with a little more finesse !!!

Help appreciated please.
