I am considering adding a projector to my system.
I have found a great offer on the OPtoma H50
but am struggling to find any performance data.
    Does anybody have any comments?

    Cheers

Try a different spelling - Optoma (having a P makes all the difference ;) )

    In brief:-

4:3 panel DLP projector with a native resolution of 800x600 pixels. Features semi-long throw lens.

    Pro's
DLP so higher contrast ratio than LCD (a generalisation) @ 800:1
bright - 1300 ANSI is quoted
compact - as most projectors are nowadays
Pal progressive compatible - for future proofing
DVI input - for budding HCPC enthusiasts

    Con's
Some DLP rainbow effect for certain viewers - a demo is recommended
4:3 panel format - can leave shadows above and below with 16:9 images
Component shared with the RGB PC input
Fan & colour wheel noise a bit higher than average

If it will fit in your room and you don't see the rainbow effect then chances are you'll like the picture from this projector. Try before you buy though.

    Good luck

    Thanks this is very useful.
My other contender is the much written about Panny AE300.

The Infocus X1 is a similar spec, though I think it has a slower colour wheel (possibly more rainbow likely), and a white segment. It's also a lot cheaper - around £1200 or less.

go to www.projectorcentral.com and you can compare specs directly between different machines.

    Gary.
