How can P Jackson be ignored, it makes a mockery of the Oscars IMO.

Is the inclusion of Nic Cage a wind up btw? :rotfl:

Just had a thought, perhaps they do intend to nominate PJ but are waiting for ROTK as they don't want to keep nominating him year after year, they see it as one film which technically it is I suppose.

Nic Cage is supposed to be sensational in adaptation, I'd have to go for Two Towers as the movie. I saw the trailer for the hours and actually fast forwarded it (which I never do) it looked that boring.

The Academy always baffle me with their choices.
It mostly seems to be films from the back-end of the year, obviously the Academy members don't have much in the way of a memory.

Nice to see the usual miserable Brit movie getting a nod:rolleyes:

I'm gonna take a wild stab and guess that the selection commitee are "getting on a bit" judging by the films they chose. It's the sort of snobbery that is the curse of the British film industry, apart from TTT I'm not really interested in the other films in that list.

And if Spiderman beats TTT or AOTC for best visual effects... I won't know whether to laugh or cry.

That is actually a very good point. Peter Jackson should, by rights, have won Best Director 3 years in a row... and they wouldn't be about to let that happen.

Anyone who has been following the oscars for long enough will see a pattern to who gets nominated and who wins.
I am going to back Martin Scorsese for best director, although GONY is not his best work I think he will win because many think he is overdue an oscar.

Since Hitchcock never won an Oscar, I really couldn't give a fig who wins any category.

having seen punch drunk love I am very suprised Adam Sandler hasn't been nominated

They don't forgive actors for their previous sins very easily it seems

Surely DDL in gangs was a supporting role

"And the Martin Scorsese award for being Martin Scorsese, and coasting in the twilight of their career goes to.... (fumbles with envelope)....Martin Scorsese".

Let's all pat "Marty" on the back.

And the academy won't give any serious recognition, particularly in the current political climate to any film that is not US-centric, so tough luck if your a New Zealander with a penchant for making intelligent, money making epics that push back cinematic boundaries.
