    Hi,

I have been sent the original (maybe more than once) but I just cant seem to unzip it.

Anyway, does anybody where I can download the original file from? Ive got everything to do the UrbanT method (manual method of writing the results on paper and transposing them into the wizard).

I know there are newer version going about but I just want the old one.

    I thank you advance.

    Still loving Tag AV32rdp and 32flr :)

    Bill

Hi Mr. Yakimoto, May I ask why you are trying to use the original app?

I have used most of these apps over the years to configure TMREQ on my AV32RDP and always ended up upgrading to the latest version of REW due to added benefits and features. Right now I am using REW 5.12 and it is the best yet.

Best, I define for me, due to other tools built-in to REW such as waterfall, RTA, Room Simulator, etc that allow me to understand a lot more about what you are hearing from your speakers PLUS room characteristics that you can then use to setup TMREQ really well. The ONLY disadvantage with using REW versions newer than 4.11 is that you have to upload the EQ'd settings to AV32RDP one channel at a time rather than altogether.

I am in the process of applying acoustic treatment to my home theatre to tame several issues and I couldn't possibly do it without REW. I highly recommend using the latest version as it will allow you to do far more than just setup TMREQ so you can really get the best out of our beloved TAG McLaren gear.

    Cheers.

Its only because I have used it before and UrbanT supplied an idiots guide. Plus I will be doing this manually...ie adding all the results into a spreadsheet and uploading .

If someone else has guide for dummies for the newer versions, then Im more than happy to give it a go.

    Cheers

ok guys, although Ti33er has kindly sent me the TMreq file, I just cant seem to open it, whatever I do, so I think I'm resigned to having to use REW.

Why I was against it, is that it states that i need an SPL meter, laptop and a cable to link the laptop to the av32r...thats the thing I dont have.

What I need to know is.....

Can I link my SPL meter to my laptop, do a frequency sweep so that the REW picks up db's at each frequency, presenting me with graph, flatten the peaks and type in the results in the 32r?

...or does the REW have to be linked to the the 32r for it to work?

I would appreciate if somebody could give me a very basic guide of how to use it (just like UrbanT did for the TMreq)

    Cheers guys

    Bill

You doesn't need the programming cable. This cable is only necesarry if you like to send the filtersettings directly into your processor. But you can do that also manualy via the remote control, it needs only a little bit more time.

For the measurement a connection between your Soundcard and AV32R is necesarry because REW supports no external test tones.

Hi Mr. Yakimoto, Here are some links to get you started. All this may look daunting at first but take your time to digest all this information slowly and you will appreciate how much better your music sounds when everything is calibrated properly.

Feel free to ask any questions and I will be most happy to help where I can. I am by no means an expert in this field but have a few years of experience with REW and Tag gear. The real experts are only too happy to help at HomeTheaterShack forums where John Mulcahy often responds directly to REW related queries.

    1. Get REW from here:
REW - Room EQ Wizard Room Acoustics Software

Help section of the program gives you lots of tips as well as how to test one speaker at a time by directing the test signal to a specific channel in AV32RDP or AV192R as well as connecting Tag programming cable to upload EQ filters.

If you don't have the Tag programming cable, you can still enter the EQ filters manually into the Tag processor.

    2. REW how to video:
    REW YouTube Tutorial at HomeTheaterShack.com

REW 5.13 has a slightly different interface to the version used in the video but exactly the same principles apply.

    3. Article on Room acoustic measurements.
Room Acoustic Measurements 101 - Acoustic Frontiers

Read this article to understand what you are trying to achieve.

Also, there is a PDF link at the bottom of this page to a very detailed in-depth article about what is most important for 2 channel Stereo Music reproduction. It took me a while to get my head around it but after going through it a few times and experimenting with speaker positioning, furniture re-arranging, trying bass-traps, sound absorption panels, and then seeing the results with REW helped me understand things a lot better.

    4. Not strictly Room EQ related, but this video will show you how important room treatment is and the difference it makes to sound. Ideally room treatment including bass traps should be applied BEFORE using Digital room EQ.
Hearing is Believing - The Ultimate Small...

    5. Another detailed article on room acoustic measurement if required.

    Enjoy.

You need an audio cable from your sound card line out (or speaker out) with the appropriate connector (Usually 3.5mm jack) to AUX input of your AV32R (2 x RCA) like this cable.
    RCA LR to 3.5mm.jpg
Go to help section of REW then under 'Getting Started with REW' click on 'How REW Makes its Measurements' tab to see how to make connections. There is an 'Interconnect Diagram' showing you how to make the connections.

After you connect the cable simply select 'AUX' input of your AV32R using remote controller. You should be able to hear the sound of your PC coming through your main speakers now.

    Cheers.

Im sure this shouldnt be this difficult!!

Ive been trying the first steps of REW all morning and I cant get the "In" level to pick up with my SPL metre. If I use Stereo mix instead of external mic then i get close but I dont think thats right

I have now managed to open Urban Ts wizard but I am without the "text file frequency template". If anyone has it at hand, that would be great. I know what I am doing with that method, REW just doesnt seem to work for me.

    Thanks
    Bill

    Hi Bill,

Loopback is usually down with a 3.5mm Male to 3.5mm Male cable to connect 'sound card output' to 'sound card line-in'. What sound card are you using?

Here are the instructions for sound card calibration.
    Calibrating the Soundcard

    Hi,

Ok, Ive managed to do the loopback, as stated above and got the levels to -12db & -12.4db..pretty close. Strangely I cant get it to work I i use the behringer UCA222.

    upload_2015-10-18_12-55-5.png

I then do a calibration and it says that the levels are too low

Something just isnt right......what else do I need to do?

Cheers guys, I appreciate the help

Hi Bill, You are on the right track, so keep going. Once you get these initial issues sorted you will be right to take measurements.

See below Preferences of REW showing how I set sound card output and input preferences in order 1-4. Specify EXACTLY which sound card input and output REW should use. Using 'defaults' has caused me problems too.

    REW_Preferences.jpg

During 'Check Levels' or 'Calibrate' use options 5 and 6 to adjust output and input volumes to ensure the input level is within GREEN section. I usually aim for around -20dB FS. See below how I had to reduce output levels to around 0.200 for 'Wave Volume' and 0.300 for 'Input Volume' to get acceptable level. Aim for around 15-17db FS (to prevent clipping later on).
    REW_Preferences2.jpg

When 'Calibrate' is complete, remember to 'Make Cal' and save the calibration. After that you are ready to take actual measurements from your sound system. Good Luck.
