Oranges PV500 42, my nightmare has gone!

Hi guys, some of you have been following my saga of 'cbeebies' burn in. I think the original thread has dropped off the radar but I still get private messages and emails from fellow plasma owners about it. After running in my set, I let the family use it as normal tv, and my little girl left cbeebies running as background noise for about 10 hours over 3 days, and it left a very scary image retention on my lovely panny. Well, about 85% of it went after a few days, but the remaining has been haunting me for weeks, if not months. It was odd the way it faded away, depending on the colours on display. Eventually you could not see it on anything but very bright white or blueish purple screens. But after careful checking last night, its gone!! I have noticed the screen now appears far more resilient to picking up image retention, maybe 3 or 400 hours is a better yard stick for being all clear? I am not sure if its just me, but the blacks dont seem quiet as punchy as day 1, but that could well be my eyes playing tricks on me. I hope this thread offers hope to you other guys with images that just wont shift after a few days or even weeks.

Regards

Orange

That is brilliant news , organge :)

Your experience of screen burn with Cbeebies with a Panasonic 42PV500 , I must admit, really put me off from buying a plasma.. because my kids (4 yr old and 5 yr old) watch Cbeebies for hours at a time! and i got the feeling that getting a plasma was asking for trouble in this scenario.
Having gone backwards and forwards over the last 6 months, I'm now going to go ahead and buy the Panasonic 42PE50 within the next couple of weeks or (or maybe even the Pioneer 436 XDE, will need to take another look at it.. ).

My main worry was getting screen burn which would be there permanently (ie, for ever and ever ! ) - but it appears that even with the same image appearing on screen for 48 hrs, there's still a good chance that the plasma will recover from it with time.. so maybe i was making screen burn more of an issue than it was.

well i wouldnt worry i think its a one off. We watch Sky news or other channels for hours on end and it has had no effect whatsover. No retention at all. As far as screenburn goes noone has had problems with a permanent image. Orange66's TV is probably the worst case scenario.

Given your previous posts Majid i think your being a bit too paranoid about retention, maybe you should just keep your money and stick with CRT.

I'm sure I have read previously that it is the blue phosphors that are the most sensitive to image retention/screen burn with the red and the green phosphors being much more resilient. Your observations seem to back up this theory.

Anyways, the main thing is, congrats on losing the ghost image!!

yep thats right blue is the woorse for at least the first 1000hours
so if you have a logo with either no blue or just blue, you will end up with a large differential ethier side of the logo.
e.g
if it was a blue logo the area where the logo is will look less white (lower colour temp)after image retention.
orange I am really happy for you and your kids ;-)

That's good news that it's finally cleared up. Interesting remark about the blacks not being as punchy though ? As the phosphers age the screen will lose contrast, but to notice the difference in that short amount of time is worrying to say the least.

Great to hear it Orange....I think the PV500 will only really prove itself over time and thats one of the reasons I chose Panasonic as they have a great record for lasting.

thanks for the support guys! I cant tell you of the feeling you get thinking your very expensive plasma has been fried, its really not nice. As I said, this kind of very intense/close to being permanent? burn in tends to fade somewhat lopsided. I hadnt considered the blue phosphor idea before, but yeah that makes sense. All well that ends well, phew!
