Optoma UHD550X/ UHD60/ UHD65 Owners Thread

I thought it was about time the obligatory owners thread was made.

Is there an orderly queue for these new Optoma Projectors yet ?
The lack of 3D is disappointing as I have lots of 3D Blurays. I'm also not normally keen on buying a first gen device.

It does however sound promising from the intial previews. The question is will I see £3000 difference upgrading from my nearly 6 year old Optoma HD33. I'd need a way to mount the two projectors to keep the HD33 for 3D.

These new 3 4K compatible projectors look very interesting, especially the 550 & 60 models. I have the Optoma HD151X, with which I am really pleased with, but will upgrade to a 4K asap and then we will be able to really appreciate the 4K image on a big screen. Disappointed about the lack of 3D on the new projectors because I have quite a few 3D films which are fantastic on the 151. w wait and see!

My Optoma HD33 gave up the ghost last night fan failure message this might be a good reason to upgrade.

Nope I'm not in the que. possibly looking in for the 3D aspect but as Optoma have left it behind there's no possible chance of me looking at this line of projectors.

I bit the bullet and ordered the UHD60. It's expected end of this month. I got it from Scan who seem to be a good £400 cheaper than anyone else at the moment. I've been waiting over year since they announced they were doing a 4K projector so couldn't help myself.

Will update when I get hold of it. I already have about 9 4K movies to try and the Planet Earth II series in 4K HDR all ready to be tested. Not sure if my PC can 4K games though but will upgrade it later in the year so I can test Forza in 4K as well.

That's a great price and according to the scan site due tomorrow !

Waiting for your feedback, I also have a HD33 but will keep it just for 3D and use the new one for everything else. Let us know what you think of it.

Hi I got my UHD60 from Scan and it arrived yesterday. I watched Deadpool and Planet Earth ii. It is my first 4K experience, it's nice but not earth shattering, better than my Benq W1080, but that still did a good job. I am experiencing some issues with it recognising my Oppo 203 when not playing a film and not recognising Amazon Fire TV through the Oppo. this might be a cable issue, as reported on some US sites. I have not tried to play through my av receiver (pioneer 2024) as it doesn't support HDCP 2.2. Still trying different things before making a full verdict, it does run very quietly !

The issues have been sorted by getting a premium HDMI cable, so I can also watch Netflix and Amazon content now.

Well I'm now an owner ( order placed ) I started the optoma hd33 thread many years ago , and sold it a few months ago when I moved and got a nice 65'' ks9000 Samsung tv thinking that would do but I was so wrong it was not big enough and movie night was no longer epic , so the new 4K projectors have arrived at the right time and I hope it's as amazing as my hd33 was

Any way I've gone for the Uhd550x (I beleave it's the same unit as the 60 ) as you can pick it up from amazon preorder for £1,888.78
Using the code office10 hope this helps someone out

I've ordered the UHD65 from The Movie Rooms. Did a deal, trading in my old Themescene (Optoma) HD87. The new projector is due for delivery next month or early September. The HD87 has better lens movement (lateral and vertical) than the UHD65, so I'm busy measuring up the bat cave for the installation. The old projector has sat on a shelf on the back wall. The new one will have to be ceiling mounted, or hung from the shelf, to cope with only 15 percent vertical lens movement.

Optoma UHD550X - idealo.de

1999 euro's to buy uhd550x from europe and warranty should still be valid. Works out around £1790 ish.....

Tempted to buy it but also looking at the UHD65 which is basically £3 grand....is it £1200 better is the question I'm asking myself.

The HD33 was a fantastic machine and oddly, I remember talking with the one of guy's at Optoma and saying you have another HD72i on the market, My contact at that time hadn't been there to long and he said "the office has just gone quiet, what I have I just said". Subsequently production was increased because of that telephone call

I'm expecting this new projectors is going to be more like the HD80's, which is a great step forward from where they have been in the past few years.

I've heard whispers on the 3D front and although, "nothing is confirmed", something is happening behind the scenes, its going to be very difficult for them. So, if it arrives, it will not be a simple firmware update.

Something similar happened with the HD81 (Optoma's first 1080p projector), they sorted it and everyone was very happy!

Regards, Shane.

What a tease regarding the 3d front . Still interesting info and as the serious movie watching season is a few months away it gives one something to look forward to.
