Optoma HD81 or Sony VPL-VW50

Hi Avi, you are assuming I would be able to detect any convergence problems of course...most people here are experts...I'm not sure I could tell, which worries me... :S

PS. I've witnessed Sony attitude towards customers and failing equipment and it is very positive.

I use a combination of white test patterns and/or text/graphics from my PC. I've attached a picture that may help as it shows MC (all the lines and dots should be white)

Gary, I can see that point. I think I'd pick mine up, I've found someone in Warrickshire, 45 mins for me that sells them...could take my laptop and stuff a grid up before I buy it :) now theres a plan...

AVI, thanks for that, I can see that yours is out from that picture! :S

Hi Avi,

rumour has it convergence can be knocked out if the pj is bashed around a bit whilst in transit, which is why I recommend seeing the one you're going to buy if possible. It could be that the ones you've bought have been OK but the convergence may have been made worse during delivery (if that's possible).

Hi Gary

I agree that common sense would suggest that delicate precision optics don't travel too well. That's said the units from Sony have arrived double boxed with the inner box suspended in large air bubble packaging. The whole lot is then affixed to a type of pallet  They don't appear to think "normal" transportation should be a problem.

What happens if you go over a bump or brake sharply whist returning from the dealer with your new PJ ?

I was thinking of creating an air suspension system in the back of my and driving back at 10mph.

Just kidding :) dunno "risk it" comes to mind. At least I know it won't have been thrown in the back and tossed around.

Maybe a police escort would help

I was thinking along the lines of being dropped and kicked around etc as is known to happen. Sounds like yours should pretty much be as it left the dealer though.

Gary

That's what I was thinking also. Not the transit itself but the loading and unloading (the airport baggage effect I call it).

Hi, OK TFBoy just left. The pearl is fantastic. All of my fears have been put to rest, it's sharp, and the picture is just superb. Now I gotta work out how to convince the wife I need another projector, no mean feat.

Thanks go to Tfboy though for brining it over, lovely bloke and we had a good chinwag about stuff in general!

Just back. Was great to see some proper HD at last :)

One thing I did forget to ask - how TT integrates with MCE using my movies. But I'll look it up and play around a bit :smashin:

Re convincing your wife, what about saying you fancied removing two tubes off your CRT along with chiseling the edges and having resprayed in a shiny silver paint? ;) :p

Glad you liked it though. I already have my crimbo present (picked it up a few weeks ago). I know what you want for yours :D

OK I want mad and got a Pearl and the mount (Ouch that mount is expensive, but good!).

It's on the ceiling right now and I'm about to play tonight (taken me all afternoon to take down my old kit and put this up). I did a test of it before I left the place where I bought it and I had zero convergence issues, I mean I couldn't see a single pixel or half pixel shift...

Let's see what the drive did...slight scared...

It simply rocks. I cannot believe how good this machine is. I've removed both of my other projectors and this beauty is sitting there on it's mount. Just fantastic...I've not done anything other than put it in focus tbh and put the lamp to low. I'd appreciate some tips. The best bit is there is absolutely no pixel shift at all.

One thing, it stinks, very smelly heat smell like burning..I've noted others mentioning this and I noticed it on ftboys too...

Other than that I am just so impressed with this machine...right now need that PS3 to arrive from my mate in the US so I can try 1080p or buy a bloody machine that does 1080p....hmmm...more money...

TT

PS...just getting my website finished of my room when I do I'll post it up!!

Congrats. Glad you managed to get a good unit.

Hehe. I hope I'm not responsible for too much of that :p

Looking forward to the pics now the tubey has gone :smashin:

The Perfect Vision Magazine has just given the Pearl Product of the Year.

Hi guys, I've put up a little site with my Cinema Room stuff.

Link in my signature.

It's just a start and be gentle with comments on my photo.

Got some new Sony Pearl photos in there!

Have a great Christmas.

Funky music, but the 'bobbly' effect of the images was playing havoc with my alcohol induced state :p
