Hi, its my first visit to this site! I have a problem...

My SonyDAVS880 base unit has given up the ghost (it's a few years old) but I really like the speakers so I want to use them with a new set-up, if possible.

I'm a real novice at this sort of thing. What are my options here? I am happy to buy a new DVD player (i'd quite like one with a hard drive anyway) but how do I connect the speakers? Do I need a separate box (amplifier?) and, if so, will any do?

Should I just bin the speakers and move on?

    Many thanks

Whats wrong with the base unit, has it just stopped playing dvd's? If so you could buy a new dvd player and connect it to the base unit via an optical digital cable and connect the new dvd player to your tv.

Thanks for the reply, ns1col. However I've given up on the base unit - it seems completely dead. Worringly it just vibrates whilst the power is plugged in, leaving me worried i'm going to get an electric shock from the metal case!

I wouldn't bin the speakers, sell them on ebay, these tall speakers seem to be selling quite well lately.
