    either it doesnt matter

is it fairly similar from night to night that you can tell me it across a month or it changes that much you have to tell me over a reduced time scale

go onto internet explorer and assuming you have not changed any settings since you first got the home hub in the address bar type in 192.168.1.254 and hit enter then login details (unelss changed) will be Username: admin and password: admin

over 3GB a week could be the capping that BT are imposing because they may count it as excessive though i dont see it as excessive as there are people that probably do 30GB + per week

when you feel the speed drop next, give them a call and see if they will tell you why

it would probably mean that your local exchange is being used by a lot of people but i doubt you would see drops that big

    no probs, happy to help

i know you are new to the forums so a couple of pointers that will keep the MODs and others happy with you

there is the thanks button for when you need it
and posts that dont require new posts can be added to your last post via hitting the edit button

i always have 2nd posts following each but try to make them addressed to someone else or about something else - the above 2 sorta fall in the category that ones general the other is at me

hope this helps, also welcome to AVF

    no probs for the tips

try it every so often so later when people start coming offline and using the internet less then to try and determine when the cap comes off etc.

just to sorta gauge wots going on?

ok, now you need to find out if you are being "unfair" towards the fair usage policy and so they are capping you

just out of curiousity how many comupters that are connected to the internet are in your house?

this is from the link you put above of the fair usage policy

it basically states that downloads of films etc are not important as are for later viewing (so not time critical)
other uses eg browsing the net etc is time critical (you want it as quick as you can) that should be unaffected

i think your best bet is tomorrow ring BT and say what is going on, you are not happy with it and would like an explanation

    thanks Ned
in light of that if your bro downloads about 3GB per week then you are looking at 9Gb per month but lets call it 9.5 to give a bit of lee-way this means that accoding to Ned you are still under

first off ring and find out tomorrow why you are being punished if you are supposedly below the limit and if you get told what your current usage is and how much your allowed before you get capped then try downloading a network monitor to see how much you download a week

EDIT: it means you have unlimited downloads but that does not take into account the fair usage policy though you could use it as an argument that it should, you are paying more and not allowed to download that much though told you have unlimited downloads
