    Hi,

I'm lacking knowledge of projectors but am interested in trying one. Would not have it permanently in position, it would be more a case of bringing it out when required (my lounge already looks enough like a hifi demo room) :D

I see Hifibitz selling the Optima H27 for £620 ish this weekend but can't find any reviews of it on Google or this Forum. The resolution quoted is not high but other aspects sound ok to my inexperienced eye.

Any advice will be gratefully considered...

    Thanks,

Don’t get too hung up over resolution, yes extra would be nice, but 852 x 480 DLP’s produce excellent cinematic pictures. The H27 shares many similar components to that of its bigger brother H30a, only £300+ cheaper. Obviously the H30a is better, but for a first projector the H27 looks a bit of a bargain. Just check to see if your not adversely affect by rainbows.

I don't think the H27 image processing is as good as the H30a which has Faroudja IIRC. That might make some noticable difference in image quality. Try to get a look and see if the difference is worth £300.

Thank you both, it's from hifibitz and just this weekend so "try b4 you buy" is not an option. Anyone else with a view?

    Regards,

Optoma usually goes with Pixelworks chips, H30A uses Pixelworks PW166 scaler, and PW1231 deinterlacer. You can see quite big difference between H27 and H30A.

Thanks for all the advice, I'll try the cheaper H27 (£617) as an intro to see how I get on.

Thanks cinematic - I take the point that the H30A is better than the H27, thus the 50% price increase. I'm limited to a 6' wide screen so hopefully its limitations will not be too apparent. If we get on ok with a pj system then we can consider upgrading.
    Cheers,

Those considerations will start day 1, not because the H27 isn't a good PJ, but because once you see the potential you'll realise what you've been missing all these years!

    ...PJ :)

    Hi PJ,

Upgraditis actually started before I took delivery!!!

Having slept on it I rang up this am and changed the order to a H30A :D - thanks for all the advice guys. Now all I have to do is explain it to my wife (and get a screen).

    Cheers,
