Which is the better one for connecting up a DVD Player to a 5.1 system.
it don't matter, quality is the same.
A phono cable for 20p is probs best, as its cheaper than the £1 for an optical connect.
Last of the big spenders then........
I think Coaxial (electrical) is generally considered the best but Optical has the advantage of suffering from no RF interference, being a ' light' based digital connection as opposed to a wire based one. I've been using a QED Optical for about 4 years now and I love it...but you know what, if you could really tell the difference then my hat is off to you.
all depends on the length of the run. if your run is long ie 10m for arguements sake then its optical all the way, as there is no loss of quality over very large distances. however over short runs most people ive spoken to on this matter say digital coaxial is the better option.
just my 2p
Do you think that is based on various magazines advice ? as most mags I know just say go for coaxial. Not many people I know have actually bothered demming optical against coaxial. I know I didn't, though I have had the opportunity to try a coaxial and to be honest, I couldn't tell the difference.
I suppose if I was in the market for an expensive lead ( £70 + ?) then I would probably consider a dem.
That's an excellent point about the length issue though.
Coaxial is better and YES there are differences to be heard between coaxial cables, Try for example the Transparent Reference.
