    Hi all

I'm trying to get optical out from my TV to my Sonos Soundbar, trouble is, I only have HDM running through the wall.

Is there any cable/attachment that will allow me to use optical via HDMI?

    Thanks

Does the TV support ARC ? Is it the model listed in your signature ?

Do you already use the HDMI cable or is it spare ?

Wow, thanks for the ultra-fast reply!

Yes, the TV has ARC and is the one listed below.

I don't use the HDMI in the wall, at present. I'm running a super-minimalist set-up (Apple TV & ROKU > Sonos > TV) but want to hide the the Apple TV and ROKU behind the TV and use optical to the Sonos.

    Thanks again.

You need a HDMI to Optical convertor that supports ARC.

I have never used one but they do exist.

Thats in the USA but it seems the same model is also on ebay, just make sure you that they have a good returns policy as you wont be sure until you try it if it's suitable or not.

Do bear in mind that many TVs only output stereo over ARC for other HDMI inputs.

We have two units which are very popular with PLAYBAR owners.

As Seb points out the capabilities of your TV and how it deals with HDMI audio will dictate which way to connect up your external devices.

Octava HD11-ARC - is ideal for an ARC enabled TV which does Pass 5.1 from external devices connected via HDMI, http://www.tmfsolutions.co.uk/Octava_HD11-ARC-UK.htm

Octava HD41-ARC - is ideal where your ARC enabled TV only passes 5.1 from onboard TV tuner and Smart Apps. and forces external devices to 2.0., http://www.tmfsolutions.co.uk/Octava_HD41-ARC-UK.htm

With the HD41-ARC you have multiple connectivity options to ensure you get 5.1 from all devices into the PLAYBAR.
