Optical to HDMI...

Bear with me....

Panasonic soundbar that only has HDMI in for sound.

Sony Xf8796 that has ARC and optical out.

So you'd think HDMI is logical, it is. However.... The magic of Android TV means my TV frequently refuses to turn on from standby, which I've seen suggested maybe linked to CEC/BraviaSync.

Ive tried disabling HDMI CEC on the TV to see if that improves the situation, after a few days it appears so.

So... I can use the ARC function it would appear. Is it even possible to convert the optical out on the TV to a HDMI in on the soundbar? Appreciate the nature of optical means it's not as straightforward as other conversions.

Unlikely. Toslink only carries audio. I’d be inclined to try another bar that has both HDMI and optical inputs. Not only will it rule out the TV as a possible problem, it will offer more flexibility.

Oooh... Maybe Bluetooth is an option..

Can imagine the horror on most people's face on an AV forum. But my soundbar isn't going to get the most out of DV or anything serious.
