    Hi everyone,

I have a Pioneer DV-525 player and a JVC Dolby Digital/DTS amp providing both co-axial and optical connections... I was informed by the guy in the shop (small local a/v dealer) that co-axial connection was better SOUNDING than optical... what do you lot reckon? My decision to buy an optical connection lead is based on your views! [IMG] any opinions appreciated,

    Stephen

I would say that there isn't any difference, except Optical produces less noice.

Which is why I have gone for Optical.

Coax is supposed to sound warmer / more natural than optical.
Besides that they are less sensitive (more robust) and the signal does not have to undergo additional conversion (from electrical to light and back) which may or may not effect the sound.
Unless you have problems with a ground loop (causing noise/hum) I would always go for coax, but make sure it's of a digital type (ie 75 Ohm impedance).

    It's all there.

Guys, please try to use the SEARCH facility of the site... We all have something to gain from more educated questions
