Hi all, I'm hoping someone may be able to help me out here...

I've got an Oppo 971 rigged up to an Hitachi 32PD5200. When selecting each of the DVI output modes - 576p, 720p and 1080i, they all display the "oppo" logo correctly.

However when watching a DVD with the player set to 720p, Instead of seeing the whole picture only the top left corner is shown, but it is zoomed to fill the whole display.

1080i seems fine, but something tells me 720p will be a better image.

I've broken the habit of a lifetime and read both manuals, but can't work this out. The hitachi claims to support 720p input, but isn't showing it correctly. Have I missed something important?

    Thanks for any help! :lease:

In the setup, your 32pd5200 should have the DVI input set to STB mode. It would seem to be set to PC mode which is incorrect.

Hi Dobbo - Im getting exactly the same thing but mines connected to a Z2 - try setting the output to either PAL or NTSC and not AUTO and see if this fixes it? Still shouldn't have to do this.

Cheers for the responses, , tried the DVI-STB last night instead of DVI-PC and it didn't even display a picture at all!

I'll try fiddling with the PAL / NTSC stuff later.

Worst case scenario I'll live with 1080i, the picture is still utterly stunning!

It won't display 720p at 50Hz (limitation of the pd5200's). It should be fine at 60Hz.

Ok so having the player set to auto is actually doing NTSC hence the 50Hz and the picture being cropped when using 720p? ansd thats why it works if you set to 720p and set the output to PAL for R2 discs and NTSC for R1 discs - doesnt this make the auto function pointless?

Mines hooked up to a Loewe A32 lcd and it wouldn't work above 480 on auto, set it to Ntsc and it works on all upscaled settings.......
