Anyone who played games in the 80s will remember both of these games. I'd really love to see a 3D'ed up 2005 version of both of these. A nice Uzi controller to ship with the games would be cool too.

    Dream on eh.

Essentially there are quite a few newer on rails light gun games like Time Crisis, House of the dead, Virtua Cop etc with the later versions having pretty good graphics. These are all available on consoles as well.

Op Wolf & Thunderbolt were great games in their day and I still like the sprite based graphics. I can't really see them being improved much with today's technology. Sega tried this with it's 2500 Ages series and whilst the games look a bit nicer they are only OK for a quick laugh.

If you want A more up to date polygon based shooter then go for something like Time Crisis 3 :smashin:

going back a few years there are we not? :D There were also other sprite based gun games that came after these such as
    Beast busters.
    Alien 3 the gun.
    Line of fire.

And a very strange one where you had to shoot CDs at zombies( it was based around a rock group but i will be blowed if i can remember what it was called.)

I'm a big fan of the Time Crisis and Virtua Cop series which were groundbreaking in their use of 3D to add a new sense of realism. I guess it's the rose tinted glasses syndrome - I would love to see Op Wolf & Thunderbolt brought up to date just for a trip to nostalgia-ville.

I do remember the Aerosmith Game also - although not quite as fondly!

Virtua Cop was OK but the bright white flash everytime you fired was a right pain in the arse.

oppo wolf was the dogs, i have fond memories of pouring my cash in them somewhere on the east coast. superb game, but any kind of re-hashed version i think would spoil it.

'operation initiated, rescue the hostages' !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone remember Operation Bear ? It was a total clone of Wolf - completely Illegal our very dodgy local arcade had one in for a few weeks till trading standards found out :D The only differnece i could see was it scroll the opposite direction to Op Wolf - everything else was exactly the same - No wonder Taito was bloody annoyed.

Good news for Xbox, Pc and Ps2 - Op Wolf and Op thunderbolt are both coming in a collection called Taito Legends
    Games on it are....
    Space Invaders
    Phoenix
    Space Invaders Part II
    Colony 7
    Electric YoYo
    Jungle Hunt
    Zoo Keeper
    Elevator Action
    Great Swordsman
    Sea Fighter Poseidon
    Bubble Bobble
    Gladiator
    Scramble Formation
    Exzisus
    Plump Pop
    Operation Wolf
    Rainbow Islands
    Rastan
    Super Qix
    New Zealand Story
    Operation Thunderbolt
    Battle Shark
    Continental Circus
    Plotting (AKA Flipull)
    Volfied
    Aqua Jack
    Ninja Kids
    Space Gun
    ThunderFox
    Double Axle
    Dungeon Magic
    Rayforce
    Tube It
    Bubble Symphony

Quite simply - Taito Legends looks absolute class.

Will definitely get that when it's released.

    Cheers captaineyecatch

Arcade Warehouse in Castleford (West Yorks) has had them in before but they only seem to have the op thunderbolt boards in at the moment. They may be able to get one if asked but expect to pay a fair bit more than ebay prices.

I have seen all sorts on ebay though from full working op wolf cabs, gauntlet cabs, outrun & afterburner cabinets. I agree that most of the stuff on their are Jamma cabs but if you keep looking then a gem pops up from time to time.

op wolf had the machine guns fixed to the cabinet but most modern shooters have guns attached to cables. Now sega did a superb shooter with machine guns attached to the cabinet but i just cant remember the name. All the foes had to be shot multiple times and were cyborgs, and one of the bosses was a warship. Any way one of the reasons i loved these games was i didnt get arm fatigue, you didnt have to carry the gun for hours and no reloading! I could never go on for more than half an hour on house of the dead because of this.
Any if they did do a 3d remake of op wolf i arcades i hope they stick to machine guns attached to the cabinet

Sounds a bit like L.A. Machine Guns to me - fairly recent machine (around 1998, 1999 ish).

Line of Fire was another class Sega shooter with cab mounted guns. Came out not long after Op Thunderbolt but was much more fun IMO!
