Ok,not sure if this is the best forum to post about this or even if everyone already knows about this......

Basically,my brother had downloaded some b-boy breakdancing video thing(dam those people can do some mad ****!),and there was a track intro on there which he wanted but had no idea what it was and just could not find out anywhere, the usual proccess of asking everyone,"oi,listen to this, whats this record called"to anyone that would listen, but no one had a clue.....until 1 of my mates said"why dont you just use Shazam?"

    Shazam?what the fudge is that?

He told us to call 2580 on my mobile and play the music, then they will text back what the track is.hmmmm,b :censored: cks I thought, but Ill give it a go.So bearing in mind we only had about the first 25 seconds of this track,I dialled the number and played them the little snippet.Almost instantly my phone beeped with e text message(Im talking as soon as I hung up the call)and gave the name of artist and track.

Needless to say I was well impressed, even more so by the fact that this track was from 1982!Am I the last person to know about this thing?

The network/databse they have must be HUGE!
No one will ever have to be kept wondering what that tune is for painful days anylonger;bloody marvelous!

Sorry if Im behind the times, but you never know,some1 may find it useful ;)

Good question,my mate told me about 20p,but after looking at the site,I think its 50p.Seems reasonable enough I suppose.
This seems like a better link:
    http://www.shazam.com/music/portal/

Looks like its still in Beta so must be quite a new thing.

edit:lol, just in case anyone gets the wrong idea,I do seem a little enthusiastic in my first post,so just like to point out that I do not work for Shazam in anyway

Im in work atm,but if I remember correctly the artist was Breakmachine and the track was streetdance. Not exactly what you would call mainstream and it was from 1982!
I was impressed anyway, what a sad life I must lead

Me too! Never forget trying to copy those guys when they where on Top of the Pops. "It'll never catch on" springs to mind.

I still have the cassette 'breakdance' i bought in the mid eighties which was the soundtrack to the film of the same name:rolleyes:. still got all my electro and grand master flash records aswell. I wonder if the breakdance film is available on dvd.

p.s .....The Windmill was hardest to learn imo.

HMV do a world exclusive - Breakin' (Original title), Breakin' 2 : Electric Boogaloo and Beat Street in one box!

Never could do the windmill - Nor could the guy who made the 'Breakdance - you can do it' video!

    Klaus.

Is there anyway at all of "borrowing" a copy of the Breakdance soundtrack? Really early Ice-T thing on there if i recall correctly. Also i would love a listen to any of the Electro records, Captain Rock - he rocks!!!! etc.

I really would be most gratefull.

    Regards

    Steven

How would you like me to send the ice-t track to you?
The Electro's i have are fairly unlistenable after being used pretty much nightly throughout the mid 80's and early 90's, i just cant throw them out though.

The Breakin' soundtrack has an absolute killer tune by Hotstreak called Body Work
    (A John "Jellybean" Benitez production)

I've got the full 8.23 min version on CD.

Let me know if you want an MP3 of it.

Plus, i've got a few Electro tunes on CD too
